After Saturday’s 4/1 winning NAP, take a look at our Lucky 15 selections (four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold) for the British and Irish meetings on Sunday, January 22, 2017.

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

YORKHILL (Leopardstown 2.10) is current ante-pots favourite for both the JLT and the Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival. Though beaten on his seasonal debut at the Punchestown Festival, that was his only defeat under Rules and he rattled up a hat-trick of wins over timber. He may be equally effective over fences and after eight months off the track, he sauntered to a 14-length won at Fairyhouse on his chasing debut last month in bottomless ground, despite being keen early on as he can be. Yorkhill (above) did jump left at a couple of his fences, which could either mean there is a physical problem, or he would simply prefer going left handed. Either way, if he stands up, he should land the 2m3f novice chase, but we shan’t be yet lumping on for the JLT or the Arkle.

HEARTBREAK CITY (Leopardstown 3.10) was runner-up in the Melbourne Cup for trainer Tony Martin in November and the winner of the Ebor at York in August. He had won twice over hurdles prior to his York success and it was clear that he was improving at a rate of knots in both codes when scoring at York off a mark of 103. Jockey Donagh Myler was aboard when scoring at Galway last July and while he has had a break, he won on his seasonal debut last term after a five-month break. This valuable 2m handicap hurdle will not be an easy race to win with 22 rivals and off a mark of 125, he has a little to find with a few of these. Still, he is in the right hands and should continue to progress.

STELLAR NOTION (Leopardstown 2.40) showed he has the ability to win a decent prize over fences when producing a faultless round of jumping at Leopardstown in a 3m½f handicap chase, only to be collared late on by Noble Endeavour and a couple of others. Henry De Bromhead’s nine-year-old possibly needed the run as he had been off since October when chasing home the useful Tiger Roll at Limerick over 3m. The drop to 2m5f might be just what is required today and while he has gone up a couple of pounds to 139, we expect him to go well again under David Mullins.

MINSTRELS GALLERY (Fontwell Park 2.00) won a couple of low-grade 1m6f all-weather handicaps at Wolverhampton last spring but the eight-year-old is patently better over hurdles, particularly when the mud is flying. Unless there is a significant thaw at the West Sussex track, this meeting is under serious threat but if it does, Lucky Wadham’s runner will get the heavy ground he relishes as he lines up against nine rivals in the extended 2m5½f handicap hurdle and off a mark of 128, he has a fair chance of landing the spoils.
