LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

MONKS STAND (Lingfield 1.50) let supporters down last week when beaten in a weaker race at Brighton. Jeremy Noseda’s runner had excuses though, and looked by far the best animal in an ordinary 6f novices’ dash. Green to post on only his second start, he found himself boxed in as another horse rolled down the camber and, once extricated, ran out of real estate. Back on the all-weather, which he handles well on his sole start over 5f, he looks the one to beat in a better 6f event.

BOOK OF POETRY (Nottingham 2.10), the first foal of a French 7f winner, showed up well on his 5f Beverley debut last week and finished a close-up third to Orewa, having made eye-catching progress from the back of the eight-runner field, despite having his path blocked when the pace increased. Mark Johnstone’s runners have yet to fire on all cylinders but the signs have been good in the last few days and today’s extra furlong should suit this juvenile.

WOWCHA (Nottingham 2.45), a half-sister to Group 1 winning juvenile The Wow Signal, caught the eye when staying on well at Catterick in October and scored readily at Pontefract on her seasonal debut at Pontefract last month to score at the third attempt. Stepping up into handicap company last time, she was conservatively ridden over 7f at Leicester and did not appear to see it out. She drops back to 6f today and runs off the same mark of 75. The quicker ground may well yield improvement In John Quinn’s representative.

CHEVALIER DU LAC (Wetherby 6.10) was well held by Twizzell on his 5f Beverley debut two weeks ago, but that form looks stronger after the winner ran a close-up fourth to Vona in a Listed fillies’ 5f sprint at York last week. The selection was not without support on his debut and while he was unable to make the most of a good draw, he will have learned plenty and the extra half-furlong could make all the difference.
