Yahoo Sport UK’s Horse racing Lucky 15 – Thursday’s top selections

Yahoo Sport UK has teamed up with Bet4Causes to bring you a preview of the day’s British racing – and The Night Hawk marks your card.

Each day we will mark your card, providing a preview of the day’s racing and offering what the experts feel will be the value bets of the day.

Take a look at our Lucky 15 selections (four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold) for the British meetings on Thursday, November 3, 2016.

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

UNIFY (Market Rasen 3.55) was foiled in her hat-trick bid at Plumpton last time, having scored in handicap chases at Southwell and Fontwell prior to that. The six-year-old mare, trained by Anthony Honeyball, is evidently better over the bigger obstacles than she was over hurdles, when rated 83. She was up to 96 for her Plumpton sortie, which was only her fourth attempt over fences and she was only mugged late on. Down 1lb for that, she should be able to dictate the pace in the five-runner field for today’s 2m1f handicap and her rivals have plenty to prove.

MR BURGEES (Market Rasen 3.20) has a penalty to shoulder for a pretty cosy win at Uttoxeter last week, but may well defy it in the 3m handicap chase. Having had almost a year off, the David Pipe-trained seven-year-old, making his debut for the yard at Plumpton in September, did not quite get home over the 3m2f trip. He ran well enough, though, and that promise was confirmed last week when first-time blinkers were added to the tongue-tie. He did idle late and it is open to question whether the headgear will work a second time, but Tom Scudamore left the impression he had a bit more up his sleeve.

FORT BASTION (Chelmsford City 5.50) took a massive class drop last time to end a losing run of 20, when landing a 7f claimer here last week. He was rated 102 on the level last summer but the Tom Dascombe-trained seven-year-old finally got back to winning ways off a mark of 88, having not been beaten far in a hot handicap at York previously. He is up 2lb and down 1f in trip tonight, and at this level with confidence boosted, he really should have no problem dealing with his six rivals. We expect him to follow up.

COPPER KAY (Newbury 2.35) had little more than an exercise canter in winning on her belated hurdling debut and while she was perhaps more workmanlike in scoring at odds of 1/8 at Ffos Las two weeks ago, she was returning from a 171-day absence and was not fully wound up. She was a smart bumper performer, winning in Listed company in November 2015, and Philip Hobbs has brought the six-year-old along gently enough. She is entitled to come on a ton for her recent outing and while the 2m mares’ novices’ hurdle looks a really decent race, she should show improvement and acquit herself well before going on to better things.
