LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

EDWARD LEWIS (Newmarket 3.40) did not look as though Chester suited him on his second start and it did not help that he was in a pocket when a horse weakened in front of him and he took a while to be extricated. Had he have got a clear passage, he may well have won. As it is, he is probably best judged on his debut when a couple of lengths behind Smuggler’s Moon at Newbury. He can get off the mark at the third attempt for trainer John Gosden and Frankie Dettori, who takes over the from Robert Havlin saddle today.

NAIFAH (Newbury 6.40), another Gosden inmate, stepped up on her Goodwood debut to run the useful filly Dainty Dandy close at Doncaster in a warm-looking fillies’ novices’ race on her second start. She has plenty of stamina in her pedigree but given the likely soft ground, today’s 7f trip looks ideal for her at this stage of her development. She should score.

WOWCHA (Newcastle 5.10) won a maiden at Pontefract in April and John Quinn’s representative has been thrice a beaten favourite since scoring over 6f in heavy ground, latterly when she was well backed in a Sandown handicap 13 days ago. She is getting into a habit of being an ‘unlucky’ horse, since she was ridden too conservatively at Leicester, hampered at Nottingham and also found a little trouble in running last time. She is better than those performances indicated and should not be given up on just yet.

PARLIAMENTARIAN (Hamilton Park 7.35) has his first run since his debut at Redcar last October. Charlie Appleby’s Dubai colt made a tardy start in that 1m1f soft-ground maiden, but finished very well. With natural progression and a winter on is back to strengthen up, he should shape up into a useful tool and has a big chance of getting off the mark in a modest 1m1f maiden for the money.
