Yahoo Sport UK’s Horse racing Lucky 15 – Saturday’s top selections

Yahoo Sport UK has teamed up with Bet4Causes to bring you a preview of the day’s British racing – and The Night Hawk marks your card.

Each day we will mark your card, providing a preview of the day’s racing and offering what the experts feel will be the value bets of the day.

Take a look at our Lucky 15 selections (four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold) for the British meetings on Saturday, October 8, 2016.

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

THE ANVIL (Newmarket 2.55) takes a drop in class in an attempt to land the Group 3 Dubai 100 Autumn Stakes for trainer Aidan O’Brien. The juvenile son of Galileo has had three starts and is yet to get off the mark. However, he looks a highly progressive type who should come into his own next season. He took a keen hold in the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes and stayed on really smartly to get within a neck of Best Of Days over course and distance, so anything resembling that sort of form should see Ryan Moore’s mount claim the £45,368 first prize.

GRAVITY FLOW (Newmarket 1.45) can kick off the final day of the Dubai Future Champions meeting with victory in what appears to be a strong renewal of the Listed Boadicea Fillies’ Stakes. The William Haggas-trained three-year-old has won all four starts this season, having finished runner-up in two maidens last year and completed her four-timer in a 6f fillies’ handicap at Salisbury off a mark of 90 early last month. She has showed plenty of tenacity and deserves some Black Type and while she goes up against some proven Group performers, the step up to 7f should help Pat Cosgrave’s mount.

JAN SMUTTS (Newcastle 5.40) is not easy to win with. In fact, he has just one win in his last 43 starts, that coming at Ripon in May off a 6lb higher mark than he races off today in the 2m handicap. The Wilf Storey-trained eight-year-old has only had five starts on the all-weather, however, and recorded arguably his best run on this Tapeta surface when beaten three and a quarter-lengths by the odds-on Cartwright nine days ago. He is dropping to a dangerously low handicap mark and could soon take advantage. When he does pops up, he will probably be a decent price, too, so rates a value selection.

ZOFFANY’S PRIDE (York 5.30) is forced to go up in class to tackle a handicap for horses rated 0-85 having been put up 4lb by the handicapper following a couple of narrow second-place finishes at Ffos Las and Haydock. Though on a losing run of six since breaking his maiden at Nottingham last October, Andrew Balding’s three-year-old has run some solid races in defeat and was just denied on the line last time. A progressive type, he gets in off bottom weight and William Cox’s 7lb claim should again see Zoffany’s Pride competitive in an open-looking 1m2f handicap.
