Yahoo Sport UK’s horse racing Lucky 15 – Thursday’s top selections

Yahoo Sport UK has teamed up with Bet4Causes to bring you a preview of the day’s British racing – and The Night Hawk marks your card.

Each day we will provide you with a preview of the day’s racing, offering what the experts feel will be the value bets of the day.

After yesterday’s fourth winning NAP selection in five days and a Next Best winner, take a look at our Lucky 15 selections (four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold) for the British meetings on Thursday, September 22, 2016.

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

CIRENCESTER (Pontefract 4.35) looked a filly to follow when finishing third on her debut to Flying North at Ascot a couple of weeks ago. The daughter of Sea The Stars cost 100,000 guineas and showed plenty of ability over the mile, learning plenty. Her dam was a 5f/7f winner and a half-sister to the Group 2 winner Memory, so she has plenty of speed to go with her stamina. Ralph Beckett employs the services of champion jockey Silvestre De Sousa for this 1m maiden and unless one of the unraced trio are out of the ordinary, the selection should get off the mark.

UNFORGETTABLE FILLY (Newmarket 3.10) showed plenty of promise on her Newmarket debut when chasing home Rockfel and Fillies’ Mile entry Spatial. She confirmed that when scoring by seven lengths on her second start at Lingfield in wat looked a hot 7½f maiden. She still looked in need of the experience and was a little keen to post but she made all the running to score handsomely. It was felt she would take a step up in class, but trainer Hugo Palmer has found a conditions race over 7f for her and the small field should be no detriment to her.

MOTIVATE (Chelmsford City 6.45) is trained by Sir Mark Prescott and in typical style, steps up markedly in trip for his handicap debut, having not run since April. There is very little form to go on, since this three-year-old gelded son on Motivator was sent off at big prices over inadequate trips and the handicapper could do no kore than offer him an official mark of 57. Given his stamina-laden pedigree, today’s extended 1m5f trip should show him in a much better light and expect this one to improve in low-grade handicaps throughout the autumn, whatever the outcome today.

SHABEEB (Pontefract 4.00) has won two of his three starts this season and may be able to add another victory in a cracking 1m2f handicap on a good card at the Yorkshire track. Roger Varian’s representative won a Sandown maiden to open the season and followed up in style, scoring by six lengths in an extended 1m2f conditions race at Doncaster in June. Upped to Group 3 company and trying 1m5f for the first time in Newmarket’s Bahrain Trophy, he was a little disappointing, although not beaten far, by Housesofparliament a month later. Varian’s horses were under a cloud in mid-summer and it is hoped that this one will return to the form he showed prior to his tame Newmarket effort. Racing off a mark of 100, he is the highest-rated horse in the seven-runner field.
