Yahoo Sport UK’s horse racing Lucky 15 – Friday’s top selections

Yahoo Sport UK has teamed up with Bet4Causes to bring you a preview of the day’s British racing – and The Night Hawk marks your card.

Each day we will provide you with a preview of the day’s racing, offering what the experts feel will be the value bets of the day.

After yesterday’s fifth winning NAP selection in six days, take a look at our Lucky 15 selections (four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold) for the British meetings on Friday, September 23, 2016.

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

SECOND STEP (Newmarket 5.25) has flattered to deceive since winning a German Group 1 in August last year. He has subsequently been campaigned at the highest level and was not far away from winning the Yorkshire Cup in May, when beaten at odds-on by Clever Cookie. However, his form has dipped this summer and even a drop into Listed company was not enough to regain the winning thread, as he was a well-beaten third to Berkshire at Windsor last month. The Luca Cumani-trained five-year-old is the class horse in the field of six that go to post for the Listed 1m4f Godolphin Stakes and he rates the value pick if returning to something near his best.

VIA SERENDIPITY (Newmarket 4.50) is wort another chance, having finished third on each of his two starts in 7f maidens. The 320,000 guineas Invincible Spirit colt was well backed on his debut in the well-contested Convivial maiden at York when chasing home the subsequent Champagne Stakes winner Rivet. Then the Hugo Palmer-trained juvenile was beaten at odds-on at Yarmouth by Solomon’s Bay. That was a disappointing effort, but the experience would have done him good and unless any of the unraced rivals who line up in division two of the 7f maiden are exceptional, Ryan Moore’s mount should be the one to beat.

MISS CRICK (Worcester 5.15) has won three of her last four over hurdles and may be able to give Alan King yet another winner in the 2m4f handicap hurdle. She scored on her handicap debut over an extended 2m2f at Newton Abbot last time on ground that was plenty quick enough for her. She is up 7lb for that and she gave the impression that she would be suited by a little further. She will jump a fence in time and is worth keeping an eye on over the winter.

LEXI’S BOY (Newcastle 6.45) had been largely out of form when he popped up to win a soft-ground 1m6f Haydock handicap hurdle in July at odds of 20/1. He had been slowly coming down the handicap (rated 137 three seasons ago) and scored off a mark of 77. Donal McCain’s charge has been beaten twice subsequently off 85 in similar Class 4 handicap hurdles (at Ayr and Carlisle) that he contests today, but the drop back to 2m should be to his benefit and wit just four rivals, the eight-year-old olds a fair chance.
