Yahoo Sport UK’s horse racing Lucky 15 – Sunday’s top selections

Yahoo Sport UK has teamed up with Bet4Causes to bring you a preview of the day’s British racing – and The Night Hawk marks your card.

Each day we will mark your card, providing a preview of the day’s racing and offering what the experts feel will be the value bets of the day.

Take a look at our Lucky 15 selections (four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold) for the British meetings on Sunday, October 9, 2016.

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

MONARCHS GLEN (Goodwood 4.20) created a highly favourable impression when short-headed by Celestial Spheres over today’s 1m1f course and distance. This Frankel half-brother to 5f/6f winner Cordial and 1m1f winner Ruffled, is a strapping sort who got this trip nicely on his debut and went down fighting to a more experienced opponent. The Good to Soft ground was possibly against him and he should improve for the expected Good ground and John Godsen’s representative will also be a little more street-wise.

DOLOS (Chepstow 2.15) makes his British debut for Paul Nicholls, having previously run for Guillaume Macaire in a Listed 1m7f hurdle at Auteuil, where he was a decent third. He travelled well and although his hurdling was a little untidy, the three-year-old has done plenty of schooling since that run in April. He takes on six opponents in the 2m juvenile hurdle with stablemate Cliffs Of Dover likely to be the main contender.

IRISH CAVALIER (Chepstow 4.00) may be able to spoil the party for the returning former Gold Cup winner Sire De Grugy in the 2m3f handicap chase. The Rebecca Curtis-trained seven-year-old, who won a Listed novices’ handicap at last year’s Cheltenham Festival, opened the season taking a decent 2m4f handicap at Punchestown, having previously been fifth in the Cheltenham Gold Cup and falling in the Betfred Bowl at Aintree. His latest victory came in April and like several others in this event, fitness must be taken on trust.

LIBERATUM (Goodwood 2.35) would have learned plenty on his Windsor debut in May. The Hugo Palmer-trained son of Paco Boy was sixth to the subsequently highly-tried High On Love, but ran much better than the finishing position suggested under William Buick. Champion-elect Jim Crowley takes the reins today in the 6f maiden and he should be fit enough to do himself justice.
