Yahoo Sports UK’s horse racing Lucky 15 – Saturday’s top selections

Yahoo Sport UK has teamed up with Bet4Causes to bring you a preview of the day’s British racing – and The Night Hawk marks your card.

After five successive winning NAP selections this week, take a look at our Lucky 15 selections (four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold) for the British and Irish meetings on Saturday, July 2, 2016.

Each day we will provide you with a preview of the day’s racing, offering what the experts feel will be the value bets of the day.

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

THE GURHKA (Sandown 3.45) won the French 2,000 Guineas which lacked a little depth, but he won it with aplomb. The fact that he had his colours lowered subsequently in the St James’s Palace Stakes by English 2,000 Guineas hero Galileo Gold does not detract from his class. Though he is by Galileo, his dam barely stayed a mile and the easy ground, combined with the 1m2f trip means that his chance of landing the Group 1 Eclipse comes with a small asterisk. Yet his main rival Time Test missed Ascot because of the soft ground. My Dream Boat is tough, as he showed when landing the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, but perhaps lack the class of the Classic winner. Godolphin’s representative Hawkbill is a quirky individual but has not been supplemented for nothing and could be the main danger to the selection.

DURETTO (Haydock 2.50) would appear to have a fair chance of landing a competitive renewal of the Old Newton Cup. Andrew Balding’s charge (below) was behind Green Light at Epsom last time, but the selection had excuses, since he lost a shoe early on in the race and he should be able to reverse that form now that the weights are in is favour. He is best judged on his fine second to King Bolete at Ascot on his seasonal debut and he still appears to have a fair amount of improvement in him.

BRIDAL MARCH (Beverley 1.50) was a beaten favourite at Lingfield over 7f on the all-weather two weeks ago and while she got a nice tow into the race she could not pick up 66/1 winner Quandry Peak and went down by just over a length. Mark Johnston’s juvenile previously showed improvement from her debut when second on soft ground over 6f at Leicester. Back on turf, the daughter of Casamento has a decent chance of getting off the mark in an extended 7f maiden.

QUEST FOR MORE (Sandown 4.20) won the Northumberland Plate last year and then ran well to be second in the Goodwood Cup. Roger Charlton took him to Australia and he was not beaten far in the Melbourne Cup. The six-year-old made his seasonal bow after six months off when second in a 1m6f Listed race at York last month, when chasing home Moonrise Landing. Back over 2m today, he should make a bold bid to land a competitive renewal of the Esher Cup.
