Yahoo Sports UK’s horse racing Lucky 15 – Friday’s top selections
Yahoo Sport UK has teamed up with Bet4Causes to bring you a preview of the day’s British racing – and The Night Hawk marks your card.
Each day Bet4Causes will provide you with a preview of the day’s racing, offering what the experts feel will be the value bets of the day.
Take a look at our Lucky 15 selections (four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold) for the British and Irish meetings on Friday, May 20, 2016…
ALGOMETER (Goodwood 3.30) can take the Cocked Hat Stakes to give owner Kirsten Rausing a difficult choice of which Derby to tackle. The English version looks like being a sub-par renewal and while the more cut underfoot the better for this son of Archipenko, there is no guarantee he will get it at the Curragh. Likewise, those who line up in Ireland are likely to be the same horses who run at Epsom. So why not take the plunge? The selection was second to Midterm at Sandown last time (above, right) but that one let down the form in the Dante at York. However, an injured hamstring was thought to be the cause of his flop, so the Sandown form may be stronger than advertised. Godolphin’s Prize Money is the one to beat, but the selection, trained by David Simcock, has an experience edge.
AL SHAHANIYA (Carlisle 4.10) won her first two starts last year before she went down fighting in the Class 2 Jersey Lilly fillies’ handicap at Newmarket, despite having run a bit free. She makes her first start of the season, dropping down a couple of grades with all bar one of her opponents having a fitness edge. What she achieved as a juvenile was a bonus as she is bred to come into her own as a three-year-old.
INLAND SEA (Wolverhampton 4.20) was only beaten a neck at Lingfield on his handicap debut off a mark 1lb lower than he runs off in this 6f 0-85 handicap. Winner of a Goodwood maiden on his second start last July, he was having his first run for almost eight months when taking on race-fit rivals last month and while keen in front, that would have taken the fizz out of him. Richard Hannon’s yard has been firing in the winners this week and the selection may well be another.
MARITO (Stratford 7.50) can take the 58th running of the loftily titled Stratford Foxhunters Champions Chase for Colin McBratney. He finished second in the Foxhunters’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival (holding Pacha Du Polder, who re-opposes) and then filled the same position at Punchestown. The 10-year-old is as consistent as they come in this sphere and the drying ground holds no fears.
