Yahoo XI Gameweek 21 team reviews

Gameweek 21 was a tough one for Yahoo UK’s two teams entered on Saturday and Sunday.

An average return of 96.9 points on Saturday and 64.55 points on Sunday saw us finish in 32nd place for both leagues.

Just a reminder, this was Saturday’s team:

Saturday saw 3 or 4 good performances, but too many players only scored in the low to mid range.

Alexis Sanchez top scored with 18.4 points but our only Dreamteam player was goalkeeper Tom Heaton with 17.5. Olivier Giroud and Junior Stanislas rounded out our double-figure scores with 11.9 and 11 respectively. Robert Snodgrass scored a solid 9.3 from midfield, while defenders Virgil Van Dijk and George Friend scored a respectable 6.95 and 6.5 respectively.

However, our punts on Mesut Ozil (£24 but only 5.1 points) and Andros Townsend 3.15 points backfired, while Sunderland’s shocking performance against Stoke cost us badly as Patrick Van Aanholt returned a paltry 1.35 points. Also giving us a disappointing return was Eden Hazard (who cost an eye watering £27) but could only score 5.75 points, despite Chelsea beating Leicester 3-0.

Sunday wasn’t any better. Putting most of our eggs into the Manchester United-Liverpool basket (7 players) backfired when Everton blew away Manchester City 4-0 (4 players). This was compounded by one of those four – Aleksandar Kolarov – not even making the pitch (the perils of picking a Sunday team on a Friday!)

The selections of Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic paid dividends with 11.9 and 14.65 points respectively, but the selections of Dejan Lovren (1.2) and Ander Herrera (3.7) patently did not. Our punt on Marouane Fellaini (£11) also did not pay off – despite a good 15 minutes on the pitch, and his header eventually leading to Ibrahimovic’s equaliser, he only returned 1.4 points.

The selections of David De Gea (4.5), Leighton Baines (4.7), Henrikh Mkhitaryan (5.8) and Adam Lallana (3.7) all failed to fire, especially when compared to similar options. Joel Robles (16), Seamus Coleman (8.8) and Antonio Valencia (8.7), James Milner (16.3) and Kevin Mirallas (14.9) all scored better than our selections but cost a similar price.

Oh well, we live and we learn!
