A yellow weather warning is currently in place across Bolton as heavy rain hits the borough.

The warning which was brought in by the Met Office at 6am yesterday, Tuesday September 19, and will be in place until 6pm today with people being advised to travel safely.

Heavy rain affecting parts of North West England and Wales may lead to some flooding, bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer, spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer and some interruption to power supplies and other services likely.

The weather comes as Hurricane Lee hit the UK yesterday.

The hurricane brought heavy and persistent showers yesterday to western areas and will continue throughout today, Wednesday, September 20.

Dan Stroud, meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “We’re undergoing a change at the moment, we’ve got a cold front moving in from the west, so that is helping to clear out all the showers and thunderstorms we had yesterday which have been shunted eastwards out into the North Sea.”

The Met Office added there would be more focus on blustery showers and sunny spells on Thursday and Friday, with a “generally unsettled” outlook over the next week or so.
