MASI MATONGO will miss the rest of York City Knights' 2022 season through a shoulder injury.

Matongo has been missing for York since dislocating his shoulder in last month's 32-16 home defeat to Batley Bulldogs.

Scans have since shown that the prop forward will miss the remainder of the Knights' Betfred Championship campaign.

York head coach James Ford said: "It’s a blow for us to lose a front-rower and somebody who defensively has been really good for us.

“It’s a blow but it gives opportunities to other players, like Stocky (Marcus Stock), Ronan (Dixon) and (Joe) Porter.”

While Matongo will be absent for Monday night's clash with Bradford Bulls at the LNER Community Stadium (7.45pm), fellow middle Jack Teanby is hoped return following a concussion blow.

The Scotland international has two more stages of his return-to-play protocol to complete before he is available for selection.

Back-rower Bailey Antrobus is in contention to play against Bradford after a hamstring issue, while Ford is in discussions with Leeds Rhinos over the availability of loanee centre Levi Edwards, who has been struggling with a minor knee problem.
