YouTube sensation who rubbed shoulders with Ronaldo handed Birmingham City deal

Lorenzo Greer, a YouTube sensation who once rubbed shoulders with Cristiano Ronaldo, has landed a scholarship at Birmingham City.

The talented teenager has revealed that he has been given a scholarship at Blues having been in the club’s academy for a decade.

During Greer’s time in the club’s youth set-up, he has become an internet sensation under the name ‘Tekkers Kid’ with almost 500 million YouTube views and 830,000 followers on Instagram. It was on Instagram where Greer announced he had been awarded a scholarship.

“After 10 years I’m finally a scholar! On to the next, let’s get this pro,” Greer posted alongside a picture of himself in Blues attire after a training session.

Greer has gained fame through a series of skills videos and featured alongside five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo in one Instagram story. He has also been pictured alongside Bruno Fernandes and featured in a commercial with Raheem Sterling and Tammy Abraham.

The under-16 starlet started out in midfield but has recently transitioned to full-back. “I’m a midfielder but I’m good at defending so I can also play as a full-back,” Greer said in one of his recent YouTube videos.

“I play as a full-back mostly because I can defend, I know how to position myself, and get up the pitch. It’s actually been going really well. At first I didn’t really want to play at full-back because it seemed too defensive and I didn’t think I could attack but dad told me you can attack and be in their penalty box and stuff. You’re basically a second winger.”
