The pop star was announced as a lead in the coming-of-age drama, appearing alongside Young Royals stars Felicia Maxime and Edvin Ryding.
In an interview with Hits Radio, Larsson spoke about her acting debut, revealing that the upcoming film will be “hopeful” and “beautiful.”
“It's a really beautiful story - it's quite dark and sad, but it's also very hopeful and beautiful, and it's just about life,” she said. “It sounds terrible, but it's beautiful and I'm so happy with my castmates, and I think it's going to be really nice. I feel if there were like an acting debut, this is a really good group of people to do it with.
“I've always had it [acting] in the back of my mind but I haven't actively pursued it,” she added. “I've had some people contact me [saying]: 'we'd love to have you in this series or this movie', but it's always like: 'you're playing a pop star.’ That's something I don't want to do. I want to get far [away] from that [and do] something completely different that isn’t anything to do with my profession or day-to-day life.”
A Part of You, which is being written by Michaela Hamilton and directed by Sigge Eklund, is described as a “story about life and death that portrays the experience of being 17 years old and feeling like your heart is about to burst from your chest.”
The logline for the film, which recently started production in Stockholm, reads: “Agnes' (Maxime) older sister Julia (Larsson) possesses everything that Agnes dreams of: she's the coolest person in school, the centre of every party, and she’s dating Noel (Ryding).
“If only Agnes could be more like her. When the worst possible thing occurs, Agnes' world is turned upside down and she’s forced to reinvent herself. Suddenly, she's on the verge of obtaining everything she's ever desired, but at what cost?”
A Part of You will be released on Netflix in 2024.
