Zlatan’s a champion again, derby defeat for Valencia and Shinji strikes.

Paris St Germain are French champions for the fourth consecutive year and for the sixth time in their history following a 9-0 win away at bottom club Troyes. “A walk in the park for the champions” said L’Équipe, also pointing out that PSG scored more goals in one day at the Stade de l’Aube than Troyes have managed there all season. “Paris champions of France – already” said France Football, as the Qatari-backed club became the earliest ever champions in any of Europe’s top five leagues.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored four and confirmed to BeIN Sport that he would be leaving PSG in the summer, adding jokingly: “unless they replace the Eiffel Tower with a statue of me.” Around 800 Parisians, including 150 banned ultras, accompanied their team to celebrate the title despite a ban on away fans, according to l’Est Éclair.

The European places remain up for grabs with Nice up to fourth after beating Montpellier 2-0. “Nice laughing on their way to the podium” commented L’Équipe, who also said that Nantes are “dreaming of Europe” after a 2-0 win over Angers.

But Marseille’s difficult season continued with yet another draw, this time 1-1 away to Lorient. “OM are the kings of draws” said Le Figaro. “OM must have a draw season ticket” agreed L’Équipe.

Whilst PSG celebrated, there was emotion of a very different sort in Germany as a Borussia Dortmund supporter suffered a fatal heart attack during his side’s 2-0 win over Mainz. “When football becomes irrelevant” was FAZ’s headline. “Fatality overshadows BVB victory” said Sportbild, adding praise for Dortmund’s fans who observed a respectful silence throughout the remainder of the match before an emotional rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.

Shinji Kagawa was on target for the Schwarzgelben“Kagawa strikes in Dortmund silence” said Kicker. The win kept Dortmund 5 points behind Bayern Munich, who beat Werder Bremen 5-0 on Friday evening in a “one-sided affair” (Kicker) thanks to braces from Thiago and Thomas Müller.

The battle for the remaining two Champions League places is intense and Hertha Berlin are still very much in the running after a 2-0 win over Schalke. “Ibisevic and Stark keep Schalke at arm’s length” said Kicker, “Hertha break Schalke curse and march on to Europe” said a delighted Berliner Zeitung after Hertha’s first win over the Royal Blues since 2006. Manager Pal Dardai told Welt he was going to celebrate the victory by eating half a pig with his father and his uncle.

Borussia Mönchengladbach leapfrogged Schalke into fourth with a 3-0 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt in Niko Kovac’s first game in charge of the visitors after replacing Armin Veh. Sportschau called the victory a “walk in the park” for the Foals, whilst Kicker pointed out that all three goals resulted from mistakes by a “defensively weak Eintracht.” Kovac’s debut “couldn’t have gone any worse” according to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung who believe that Frankfurt will have to rely on their stronger home form if they are to avoid the drop.

Almost certainly destined for Bundesliga 2 are Hannover 96 who lost at home to FC Köln. “Barely any hope now for Hannover” said Sportbild after two goals from former player Leonardo Bittencourt condemned the Reds to a 2-0 defeat. At the final whistle, furious Hannover ultras appeared to demand the players give up their shirts in what BILD described as a “Striptease Scandal.” Whilst the club told the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung this was “nonsense”, manager Thomas Schaaf apologised to the supporters, admitting “we’re in deep ****”

In Spain, the Valencian derbi was a must win for both teams, but bottom of the table Levante triumphed over Gary Neville’s side with a single goal from Neville’s former Manchester United teammate Guiseppe Rossi. Neville was furious in his post match press conference and said: “I have been here three months and I have sat up here after defeats and defended performances. I have sat up here and said we were unlucky. But I am not defending that.

“I have got to take responsibility for defeat, first and foremost, but that was an indefensible performance. Unacceptable.

“I apologise to the fans of Valencia because the very basic premise of football match is that you run as hard, you fight as hard and you tackle as hard as the opposition.”

Confidence is not at an all time high among Valencia fans, with only 32% those polled thinking they can overcome a one goal deficit againstAthletic Bilbao in this Thursday’s Europa League.

In Italy, Monday’s La Gazzetta Dello Sport leads with ‘The Surrender of Sinisia’ after AC Milan’s 0-0 draw with Chievo. Milan’s manager was quoted saying: ‘I cannot do any more with this team’ as they fell further away from a Champions League place, with older and former players considering the younger players to be “unworthy” of Milan quality.

At the top, Juventus stayed clear after their 1-0 Friday victory over Sassuolo, the last team to beat them in October before their winning run started. Yet second placed Napoli also won. “Higuain won’t let go,” said a headline on La Gazzetta after the Argentine scored a penalty in a 1-0 win at Palermo which keeps them three points behind. Juve are preparing for the Champions League second leg against Bayern Munich, with Patrice Evra saying: “We know how to hurt them.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic fills the cover of Corrierre Dello Sport. ‘Ibra makes it 13’ is the headline. ‘Champion of France with PSG. In 15 years he won 13 titles and came second twice. Now he wants to return to Italy. Who will take him?’ They will be no shortage of offers, though the best will come from England…
