Travis Green, ex-coach of the Vancouver Canucks, was named coach of the NHL's Ottawa Senators on Tuesday while Drew Bannister signed a two-year deal to guide the St. Louis Blues.Bannister, a 50-year-old Canadian, went 30-19-5 as interim coach for the Blues after Craig Berube was fired last December.
Dave Hakstol was fired as coach of the Seattle Kraken on Monday after the team failed to qualify for the NHL playoffs.Hakstol guided Seattle into the 2023 NHL playoffs, where they pushed Dallas to the maximum seven games before falling in the second round, but the Kraken were sixth in the Pacific division this season at 34-35-13.
Lindy Ruff, the fifth-winningest coach in NHL history, was hired Monday for a second stint as head coach of the Buffalo Sabres, who have not reached the playoffs in 13 seasons.Ruff first coached the Sabres from 1997 to 2013, guiding them to the 1999 Stanley Cup Finals where they lost to Dallas and seven other playoff berths before being fired 17 games into the 2012-13 season.
