Everton's new striker Cenk Tosun insists he will help Goodison club put Romelu Lukaku sale behind them

The shadow of Romelu Lukaku’s departure has dimmed Goodison Park this season, but Everton’s new signing Cenk Tosun is ready to help the club step out of it. Since the Belgian’s £75 million sale to Manchester United, the Merseyside club has been bereft of forward options, the inexperienced Dominic Calvert-Lewin admirably trying to fill the void. Failure to replace Lukaku effectively cost Ronald Koeman his job. Tosun – signed for what Everton say is around £20 million from Besiktas – does not want to be compared to the United striker, but welcomes the responsibility of restoring the side's attacking threat. “Of course, otherwise I would not be here. Of course I think I can do it,” he said. “Lukaku has done really well here but I am hoping to score as many goals as I can and do well. Welcome: Everton's Cenk Tosun is congratulated by manager Sam Allardyce Credit: PA “It doesn’t put a lot of pressure on me. It is a great honour.  I would like to become a great role model for all the other players in Turkey. I regard this league as the best in the world. It is fast and strong here and the ball is always moving. My character as a player is suitable to this kind of football.”  Tosun opted for an illustrious name when describing the striker he worshipped most when honing his craft as a goalscorer in Turkey. “Gabriel Batistuta was one of my idols. I loved his playing style,” he said. “He was a great header of the ball. There is a saying he could shoot with his head. I think there are similarities between my style and his.”  Sam Allardyce would welcome a touch of that class in his line-up. He considers the Tosun capture a coup, especially as he convinced the 26-year-old to surrender a place in the last 16 of the Champions League to move to England. Hands in the air, Cenk Tosun Credit: PA “We had a great group stage with Besiktas and played really well. Then we got Bayern Munich,” said Tosun. “I could have stayed until the end of the year and got those games under my belt but the manager here wanted me really badly so that played a big role. It’s good I came now. “Everton played in the Europa League this year. There are a lot of teams from England trying to go to the Champions League. Our aim should be to be in Europe every year. I think the squad has that potential, so it will great to play in Europe with Everton. “Everyone needs a new mission and target in life and mine was to play in the Premier League. The main aim is to take the team to a better place and score as many goals as I can. This year it is to get into the top half of the table. Seventh or eighth would be good for us this season.” Not yet replaced: Romelu Lukaku in his Everton pomp Credit: PA Although he represents Turkey, Tosun – who clarified the phonetic pronunciation of his Christian name is ‘Jenk’ – was born in Germany where he began his career in Eintracht Frankfurt. He was unable to forge a career in the Bundesliga, putting that down to inexperience and a lack of opportunity. “I think by playing for the Germany U15 until U21 I did quite well, but at Frankfurt there were already players who were playing for national teams so the breakthrough was difficult,” he said. “I thought it was better to try to get where I wanted by going to Turkey and playing there. That is what I did and what I have done.” After moving from Germany to Gaziantepspor, it was the switch to Besiktas in 2014 that put him on the radar of several Premier League clubs. Football transfer news and rumours: 'Arsenal hoping to seal ambitious double deal for Malcom and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang'

Arsenal are hoping to ease the pain of Alexis Sanchez's imminent departure with an ambitious double deal, according a variety of online outlets. Transfer emissaries such as Sky Sports utility pundit Guillem Ballague are suggesting that the north London club are working to finalise deals for Malcom and Borussia Dortmund's Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger yesterday admitted that Sanchez could leave the club in 'the next 48 hours' - making it all the more likely that the Gunners have at least one replacement lined up. A deal for Aubameyang, who is currently the second top goalscorer in the Bundesliga, looked more of a possibility on Monday morning after the Gabonese striker was dropped from Borussia Dortmund's squad after missing a team meeting. “We simply cannot tolerate this kind of behaviour,” said Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc. He has always been a professional. I don’t want to take part in media speculation, but we can’t continue like this anymore.” Ballague later wrote on Twitter: "Alexis Sanchez not fully agreed yet. United favourites and next 2-3 days key (nobody takes City out of equation yet). Meanwhile Arsenal want to close soon deal for Aubameyang, left out of squad today, for €60m."  According to The Sun, Malcom's mooted move to the Emirates is even closer to completion after the Bordeaux winger's agent was pictured at a tourist spot in London. Leonardo Cornacini of Elenko Sports shared a picture of himself outside Piccadilly Circus just hours before Wenger admitted Sanchez was on the verge of leaving the club. Malcom's representatives were reportedly in London this weekend to finalise Arsenal talks  Credit: AFP  Asked whether Sánchez would definitely be replaced, Wenger said: “Yes. If Sánchez goes we need to replace him. If players like Sánchez go, we have of course to respond. Will he go or not, I don't know but it's the transfer window and, in this kind of period, you try to use the players who are completely focused on being at the club. “I don't master the rhythm of that. Report: Besiktas Eyes Danny Welbeck as Replacement for Cenk Tosun

Turkish outfit Besiktas have reportedly signaled their interest in acquiring Arsenal's peripheral forward Danny Welbeck, as a supposed direct replacement for Cenk Tosun.

Tosun, who recently left the Turkish Champions in a £27m move to Everton, was an integral part of Beskitas' team, notching 14 goals and three assists in his 24 appearances for the Black Eagles.

And, according to Turkish news outlet Turkish Football, Besiktas are turning to Arsenal's Danny Welbeck as a potential successor, with a loan deal the most preferable option for all involved.

The Turkish side purportedly sent a delegation of representatives to London last week to engage in talks with a number of possible signings, with Welbeck among them.

Despite scoring just five goals so far this campaign, Besiktas are extremely keen on the Englishman, with his eligibility to play in the Champions League a major factor.

Senol Gunes' side emerged as this season's surprise package in Europe, coming through an undoubtedly difficult group remarkably undefeated, with former Striker Tosun registering an impressive four goals and two assists in the six games.

The reward for their notable performances was unfortunately not so sweet - a last 16 tie with German giants Bayern Munich. However, the Club remain determined to do themselves justice, and bolstering their strikeforce is seen as the first step.

Although the 27-year-old would ideally like to stay and fight for his place at the Emirates, he faces an uphill battle to break into the starting 11 ahead of positional rivals Alexandre Lacazette and Olivier Giroud.

In addition, with speculation signalling Arsenal's continued interest in Monaco's highly coveted forward Thomas Lemar, a move away for the time being may paradoxically be better for his first team chances at Arsenal.
