New celebs on the scene in 2017: Sofia Richie, Cardi B, the 'SNL' staff, and more

From Scott Disick’s latest love to the red-hot woman tearing up the charts, this year has been filled with new celebrities who are creating buzzworthy music, movies, TV shows, romances, and more. Here are the names we all became familiar with in 2017.

The ‘Saturday Night Live’ staff

Between SNL producer Lindsay Shookus, writer and segment director Dave McCary, and writer and Weekend Update star Colin Jost, the show has turned into a breeding ground for celebrity-worthy significant others. Shookus and Ben Affleck made their romance public in July, when the two vacationed together in London while Affleck did reshoots for the Justice League. Jost took his romance with Scarlett Johansson public at the end of November. And in October, reports surfaced that Emma Stone was dating McCary after meeting him while hosting the show. SZA

SZA was one of the hottest people in music this year. In 2017, she released her acclaimed debut album, Ctrl, scored five Grammy noms, and made an appearance on SNL. With hits such as “The Weekend” and “Love Galore,” which she released with Travis Scott, she made music that people, including Drew Barrymore, want to listen to. Kaia Gerber

The 16-year-old look-alike daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford is taking the fashion industry by storm. Although she signed with a modeling agency in 2015, this was the year Gerber made her runway debut at New York Fashion Week: She walked in the spring 2018 runway show at the Calvin Klein presentation. Of course, she rocked it — just as she did modeling gigs for Marc Jacobs, Burberry, Alexander Wang, and others. Her big brother, Presley Gerber, who’s 18, is one to watch next year. Cardi B

The 25-year-old rapper made her mark in 2017. Her hit single, “Bodak Yellow,” became the unofficial song of the summer, hitting the top of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and staying there for three weeks. She became the first solo female rap act to top the Billboard charts in 19 years — since Lauryn Hill did it with “Doo Wop (That Thing)” for two weeks. The Bronx-born spitfire also made headlines for her personal life; Migos rapper Offset proposed to her onstage during a concert. (Photo: GP Images/Getty Images)

Scott Disick and Sofia Richie

Richie — the 19-year-old sister of Nicole Richie and youngest daughter of Lionel — became Kardashian-adjacent when she was linked to Scott Disick, former partner of Kourtney Kardashian. Despite their 15-year age difference, the duo confirmed their relationship in September with some lovey-dovey photos on social media. But this isn’t the first glimpse of the limelight for the teen, who was linked to Justin Bieber in 2016. (Photo: Andrew Toth/Getty Images for Dujour)

Gal Gadot

It seems 2017 has been the year of the woman, and Gal Gadot helped make that the case. The actress nailed it as an Amazonian superhero fighting to save the world from evil. The film — which scored an impressive 92 percent on Rotten Tomatoes — was one of Hollywood’s top blockbusters. It also won some high-profile support from celebrity fans and inspired one of the year’s top Halloween costumes for both children and adults. It’s no surprise that Gadot’s name was one of Google’s top-searched actors of the year. (Photo: Clay Enos/©Warner Bros. Pictures/courtesy Everett Collection)

Joe Alwyn

“I’m sorry, but the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now,” Swift sings in her song “Look What You Made Me Do.” What she doesn’t say is it’s because she’s been too busy hanging out with her British actor boyfriend! Although the pop star reportedly tried to keep the romance under wraps, it was reported in May, and by December, they weren’t even trying to hide it. (Photo: Gachie/NPEx/Splash News)

Timothee Chalamet

Although Chalamet has been acting for years (Interstellar, Homeland), the 21-year-old — an ex-boyfriend of Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon — really came into his own in 2017. Not only did he play one of the love interests of Saoirse Ronan’s character in the critically acclaimed Lady Bird, but he also played one of the leads in another awards-season favorite, Call Me by Your Name. The latter role has already earned him a Golden Globe nomination and tons of Oscar buzz. (Photo: ©Sony Pictures Classics/courtesy Everett Collection)

The cast of ‘Riverdale’

If you haven’t been watching the CW teen drama Riverdale, then you’re really missing out! Cole Sprouse — whom we haven’t seen much of his since his days on Friends or Disney’s The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (with his brother Dylan), along with K.J. Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, and Casey Cott — is capturing the hearts of viewers on the popular comic-book-inspired saga. Who wouldn’t want to go to high school with these guys?
