Elephant Parade hits the streets of São Paulo
The action was created by the Dutchman Mike Spits in 2007, to raise awareness of the importance of preserving the species.
At the end of the exhibition, a charity auction will raise funds for entities such as the Brazilian Elephants Sanctuary, which works to rescue these animals in South America.
Spits created the fundraiser that allowed the purchase of a prosthesis for the elephant and the project was expanded to other countries.
The Elephant Parade arrives in Sao Paulo after the success of the Cow Parade, which premiered in 2005 and since then has held its traditional exhibition of artistic cows in the financial heart of Brazil.
The central Avenida Paulista concentrates much of the works, created with innovative designs and scale of elephant babies by local artists through the presentation and subsequent selection of about 300 projects that began at the end of last year.
In addition to the sculptures, which will remain on display until September, the Elephant Parade includes samples of allusive paintings in some of the city’s shopping centers. (EPA)
