Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fiery shot at India's epidemic corruption with a surprise move to ban country's two biggest currencies heated up. It is the biggest move of Modi regime in order to curb the flow of black money and knock down the terrorist organizations that rely on counterfeit cash.

Prolonged terrorist attacks, ceasefire violations and unprovoked cross-border firings, and war-like circumstances shook and saddened the country. The recent bout of violence flared in September when armed terrorists killed 19 Indian soldiers at an army base in Uri, Kashmir.

The year was also shaped by natural disasters such as earthquakes, flood, fire accidents, the train crash made terrible havoc across India. The Indore-Patna Express derailment, near Kanpur in northern India that took over 150 innocent lives, is one of the worst train accidents in recent years.

On the other hand, this year will also be remembered for some uplifting moments. India’s maiden mission to Mars, the Mangalyaan, neared the Red Planet – one of the biggest achievements of India. The exceptional performance of Indian athletes in Rio Olympics once again made the country proud. Not only medals, the athletes brought a revolutionary change in thoughts in India, a country more enamored by sports like cricket.
