A handy all-rounder who bats left-handed and bowls right-arm medium, Sam Wells started his cricketing career with Otago in the State Championship in 2007-2008. He made his breakthrough with his bowling spells though by taking 21 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls in the 2009-2010 season. He was tagged along in the New Zealand XI squad against Zimbabwe and impressed one and all with a match-saving knock. He was added to the national squad against Zimbabwe in early 2012 but the domestic veteran is yet to appear on the international stage.
