Novak Djokovic will lose the World No 1 ranking if he fails to reach the semi-finals of the French Open.
Defending champion Novak Djokovic will play wild card Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the first round of the men's singles at next week's French Open. World number one Djokovic, 37, who defeated Casper Ruud in straight sets in last year's final, will be bidding for a record-extending 24th grand slam title at Roland Garros. Frenchman Herbert, 33, is currently 143 in the world rankings is better known as a doubles specialist, having won four grand slam doubles titles.
Rafael Nadal will face world number four Alexander Zverev in a blockbuster first round match at his farewell French Open while women's champion Iga Swiatek and fellow four-time major winner Naomi Osaka are on a second round collision course.In the women's draw, top seed and world number one Swiatek will take on a qualifier with Osaka facing Lucia Bronzetti of Italy in their openers before a potential second round clash.
