  1. 6-3 - GAME, SET AND MATCH SHARAPOVA! Sharapova hitting the ball so sweetly as she secures the game she needs for victory. One hour and 31 minutes is all that is takes for Sharapova to seal her progress. Superb play from Russian as she breaks again to complete the victory.

  2. 5-3 - That could be the game that seals the deal for Sharapova. A hold of serve at this stage of the match should be good enough to complete her passage to the last four. Petkovic again forced that game to deuce, but the Russian player does enough to get herself over the winning line. Petkovic must hold to stay in the match.

  3. 4-3 - BREAK TO SHARPOVA! Four breaks on the trot sees Sharapova move to within two games of the last four. Petkovic could only manage to pick up one point on her own serve as one of those grunting forehands by Sharapova flies down the line. Right on the button and Petkovic falls a break behind. She is fighting a lot harder than in the first set, but is still in a bit of pickle out there.

  4. 3-3 - BREAK TO PETKOVIC! Petkovic continues to move Sharapova from side to side. Sharapova lets out a huge scream of "C'mon" when the ball hits a line at 30-40 down. Petkovic hits the tape with another ball seconds later, but she saves the break with a forehand drive that flies beyond Sharapova. Petkovic continues to apply the pressure to level up and break back. This match suddenly bubbling up nicely.

  5. 3-2 - BREAK TO SHARAPOVA! Sharapova suddenly looking a bit hesitant on the short ball, but she continues to look the likelier player during these rallies as a booming forehand gallops beyond Petkovic. Sharapova sneaks ahead by the odd game in five. More crucially, she is a break up once again in this set. Petkovic has it all to do again.

  6. 2-2 - BREAK TO PETKOVIC! Petkovic punching her fist in delight. She is looking thrilled with and so she should be. A fine effort from the German to claim her first break of the match. Nice variation in that game as she brings the Russian woman to the net to bring up two break points. Sharapova sees a lob land long and that is 2-2. Suddenly, it is game on out there in this second set.

  7. 2-1 - A love game from Petkovic on her serve as Sharapova throws in a few mediocre shots. After 52 minutes, the German player is on the board. Long way back, but that should give her some hope. Will be interesting to see if that will have any effect upon Sharapova's mindset.

  8. 2-0 - A lot of wind out there, but you would never know as Sharapova continues to turn the screw. Another game goes by, another game Sharapova wins. That was a love game there. If Petkovic is going to win this match, she is going to have to unearth some magic very soon. Not doing nearly enough to force this to a third set.

  9. 1-0 - BREAK TO SHARAPOVA! Petkovic had a point for a 1-0 lead in the first game, but Sharapova is refusing to give her a game as the world number 12 whacks another ball into the net. Sharapova sticks a forehand wide as Petkovic saves another break point, but she is wide with a backhand from deep seconds later. A thumping forehand saves the day for Petkovic seconds later, but she continues to drop in too many sloppy shots. Big trouble for Petkovic here as she falls a break down.

  10. 6-0 - GAME AND FIRST SET SHARAPOVA! Sharapova bidding to reach her first semi-final at Roland Garros since 2007. This remains the only Slam she has failed to pick up. Petkovic had another break point in that match, but Sharapova snuffs out that chance with a booming forehand winner. The Russian player is not hanging about out there. Power, pace and a nervy Petkovic sees the set conclude in 32 minutes. Long way for her from here.

  11. 5-0 - BREAK TO SHARAPOVA! And there we have it. After 26 minutes, a 5-0 lead for Sharapova. Three breaks and this match looks like it is heading for a quick ending unless Petkovic can pull herself together out there. Sharapova utterly dominant. Petkovic making too many unforced errors: 11 at the latest count.

  12. 4-0 - Sharapova seems to be getting noisier the further ahead she goes. And she is going further ahead out there. Petkovic manages to recover a break point after Sharapova sticks a forehand beyond the baseline, but we are quickly at deuce after Petkovic misses a baseline from deep. Petkovic not getting enough balls back in play at the moment. That is reflected in the scoreline. A 4-0 lead for Sharapova.

  13. 3-0 - BREAK TO SHARAPOVA! Petkovic failing to trouble Sharapova in these rallies. She should be mixing it up, but she is missing so many lines in trying to pressure the Russian. She drops serve to love in that game and is suddenly two breaks down. She is looking very nervous after that opening service game. The German in a real spot of bother out there. Two breaks down now.

  14. 2-0 - This is a fine start by Sharapova. She has a really determined air about her game. Keeping Petkovic on the backfoot with those probing forehands. Drops only one point in that game as she backs up the break to hold to 15. A 2-0 lead for the Russian player. Impressive, powerful and determined. Sharpova looking in the mood.

  15. 1-0 - BREAK TO SHARAPOVA! Plenty of grunting from both ladies and plenty of enormous forehands. Sharapova recovers to deuce before Petkovic drills a shot long. Early break point for the Russian, but she dumps a weak backhand into the net on a Petkovic second serve. Another power play gives her a second break point. She finally makes the break on the third chance. Fine start for Sharapova.

  16. 0-0 - Petkovic to serve in the opening game of the match. That wind is still showing no sign of dropping out there.
