  1. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 7-5 – GAME, SET & MATCH – Murray gets back way more that he should in that last point but in the end Djokovic finds a cross court forehand that Murray can only return into the net

  3. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 6-5 40-15 – Murray is a little frustrated when a forehand of his is called long. He’s out of challenges until it reaches 6-6 but a backhand into the net on the next point hands Djokovic TWO MATCH POINTS ...

  4. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 6-5 – Djokovic earns himself a game point but sends an off-balance backhand well wide down the line but he will have another chance after Murray sends a forehand return long. And this time he gets it with a forehand drive volley winner across court! Murray will serve to stay in it once again after the change of ends

  5. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 5-5 40-40 – An inside out cross court forehand winner from Murray sees him steal a 15-30 lead against the Djokovic serve before he is handed a break point when the Serb hits into the net. Djokovic saves it with a great serve that Murray can only return into the net and a second with a huge backhand winner down the line. Incredible tennis from both players after 4.5 hours! Murray squanders a third with a routine backhand into the net ...

  6. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 5-5 – Murray posts his best service hold in a while as he races through to 15 with a series of huge serves that Djokovic can only return into the net. We are back on serve and all square again in the fifth. No final set tie-break at the Australian Open remember? We’re carrying on until someone can win two games in a row!

  7. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 5-4 – BREAK – Just when you think it’s all over, Murray comes up with a couple of cracking points, including a forehand winner across court into the corner, to set up three break back points ... He only needs the one though as he pulls Djokovic up to the net and whips a forehand across court to break back. He will still have to serve to stay in it though!

  8. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 5-3 – Murray appears to be cruising once again at 30-0 before being pegged back to first 30-30 and then deuce. Another huge serve helps him set up a second game point. And he does hold with a “come on” when Djokovic hits a backhand long. Djokovic will serve for the match next though

  9. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 5-2 – Djokovic races, as much as he can at the end of a five-set match, through a love service hold to leave Murray serving to stay in this match after the change of ends

  10. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 4-2 – BREAK – Murray looks like he’s cruising towards an easier service game at 30-0 before challenging a Djokovic forehand, which is shown to have dropped well on the line, and hitting into the net to hand the Serb a break point. Djokovic squanders it with a forehand pulled wide across court but he’ll have a second chance when Murray hits a forehand long. AND THIS TIME HE DOES BREAK firing a forehand winner across court!

  11. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 3-2 – A love service hold from Djokovic sees him sneak out in front once again, the Serb stepping inside the baseline and belting a forehand winner down the line. Pressure back on Murray once again ...

  12. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 2-2 – An absolutely huge forehand down the line from Djokovic, after waiting for a floating backhand from Murray to drop, and the Brit can only return wide across court. Break point Djokovic. Murray comes up with a huge ace down the centre of the court to save it, and he saves a second when Nole hits a forehand into the net. He also saves a third, after a game point goes begging, with another ace. And he goes on to hold when Djokovic sends a forehand return wide!

  13. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 2-1 – Djokovic is back on his knees after an absolutely huge rally where he is made to run up to the net and back again a couple of times. He hits wide across court to let Murray back to 30-30 but the Brit fails to return a first serve to hand Djokovic a game point. And despite his body language going back to what it was two hours ago in that third set, he holds when Murray slaps a forehand well long

  14. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 1-1 – Despite dropping the first point of the game with a forehand error, Murray posts a strong service hold, not dropping another point, and sealing it with a forehand winner. That was an important hold for the Scot

  15. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 1-0 – A double fault from Djokovic squanders his first game point, he challenges but is proven wrong, before recovering with an off-forehand winner across court to hold to 15 and get this final set off to a winning start

  16. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 – SET – Boom! Four straight return of serve winners from Djokovic and he takes the fourth set to level up this match and force the decider. Which way is it going now? Any guess is a good guess at this stage!

  17. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 5-1 – Murray finds himself with break back points, two of them, when Djokovic throws in a slack game. They both go begging though as Murray slaps consecutive returns into the net. Murray will serve to stay in this fourth set next ...

  18. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 4-1 – Better from Murray as he holds from 30-30 with an ace. He looks a little like he’s just going through the motions in this set now, saving and preparing himself for the fifth

  19. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 4-0 – Another huge love service hold from Djokovic to consolidate the double break. He has not dropped a point on serve so far in this set

  20. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 3-0 – BREAK – The foot work has completely gone from Murray now as he sends a forehand long to hand Djokovic another couple of break points. Only one is needed for the Serb though as Murray does brilliantly well to lob Djokovic only to send his next shot well wide. A backhand cross court that Murray simply swung at, he didn’t move his feet at all

  21. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 2-0 – The best service game we’ve seen from Djokovic in a long time as he holds to love with a huge first serve and cross court forehand winner. Pressure on Murray now ...

  22. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 1-0 – BREAK – Murray is forced to save early break points in this fourth set ... he manages to save one by pushing Djokovic around the court and drawing a cross court forehand error. But Djokovic does break at the second attempt when Murray slaps long

  23. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) – SET – But Murray gets it at the second attempt, a great serve out wide seeing Djokovic return wide across court. There’s a big yell of “yeah” from the Scot after that point and well there might be; he leads the world number one and defending champion by two sets to one

  24. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-6(4-6) – TIE-BREAK – The first goes begging when Djokovic gets up to a defensive backhand from Murray that catches the top of the tape and sits up for the Serb to dispatch across court ...

  25. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-6(3-6) – TIE-BREAK – A brutal rally from Murray as he fires forehand after forehand after forehand to move Novak around the court and eventually find the winner. Three set points for Murray ...

  26. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-6(3-3) – TIE-BREAK – This set has been going for 84 minutes now and there is nothing to choose between the two players as they change ends at one set apiece and three points apiece in this breaker!

  27. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 6-6 – BREAK – Shocking game from Murray once again when he is a break up. And he hands Djokovic two break back points. Djokovic just misses the first with a cross court forehand return marginally wide. But he does force the tie-break at the second attempt when Murray pulls his cross court backhand wide

  28. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 5-6 – BREAK – A huge cross court forehand from Murray goes for a winner to bring up another two break points for the Scot. The first goes begging when he hits a rushed forehand into the net but a stunning point from both players ends going Murray’s way when Djokovic just hits long. Huge defence from Murray there and he will serve for the third set next

  29. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 5-5 – A huge cross court forehand winner from Murray saves it this time before he hands Djokovic another chance with a backhand smash into the net. It’s another save from Murray though and this time he goes on to hold when Djokovic fails to prepare himself for a backhand and hits well wide, even of the net post

  30. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 5-4 Ad-40 – Signs that Djokovic is picking himself up again now as he runs around the ball to fire a forehand winner down the line to leave Murray screaming in frustration. Two great first serves get him out of the early trouble before a missed forehand allows Djokovic to 30-30. And a shockingly nervous forehand long hand Djokovic a set point. An ace from Murray saves it brilliantly but quickly gives Nole a second chance ...

  31. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 5-4 – Murray gets a little lucky with a forehand passing shot as it catches the top of the tape and goes over Djokovic’s racquet, too quickly for him to recover. He pushes Djokovic to deuce, albeit at no point holding a game point, but the Serb fires down an ace to hold. Murray will have to serve to stay in this third set after the change of ends

  32. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 4-4 – Murray finds himself 0-30 down as he struggles to get his momentum going once again. But a couple of big first serves really help and he levels at 30-30 when Djokovic just misses a cross court backhand return. And Murray goes on to hold from there with a cross court forehand winner

  33. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 4-3 – Who says Murray can’t hit the forehand winner down the line?? He absolutely kills one to go 15-30 up against the Djokovic serve. But a couple of aces in the game really help Djokovic and he holds when Murray pulls the trigger on a cross court forehand return only to hit into the net

  34. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 3-3 – Djokovic is banging his chest with his fist and trying to get some adrenalin back into his game but Murray stretches Nole into an error to bring up a game point, which he takes full advantage of when Djokovic blocks a backhand return of serve long of the baseline. Important hold for Murray

  35. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 3-2 – Murray has completely lost concentration in the last five minutes and sends consecutive forehands sailing way long of the baseline to help Djokovic to a game point. He denies the Serb with a cross court forehand after pushing him out of position before Djokovic slaps long to hand Murray another break point but an off-forehand into the net from the Brit wastes it. And Djokovic somehow goes on to hold once again

  36. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 2-2 – BREAK – Such a slack game from Murray as he slaps down a double fault to hand Djokovic two break back points. And he hands the game to the Serb with a forehand long just a couple of points later. Somehow, we are back on serve

  37. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 1-2 – BREAK – A forehand slapped long from Djokovic hands Murray three more break points early in this third set. The first goes begging when Murray puts his backhand return (off the second serve) into the net as does the second when he hits long off the first serve. But he draws Djokovic into a long rally on the third, and wins it by wrong-footing the Serb on the baseline. Djokovic takes an age to get back to his chair, walking very slowly indeed

  38. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 1-1 – Murray, comparatively, races through a service hold to force the pressure back on to Djokovic’s serve. A little foray into the service line from Murray pays dividends as he belts a forehand winner down the line to seal the game to 30

  39. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 1-0 – Djokovic’s body language is shocking right now as he plays a drop shot and just doesn’t move after, allowing Murray to easily get up to it and then find a winner shortly after. A forehand long from Djokovic a couple of points later hands Murray an early break point but the Serb stops mid-point to challenge a Murray forehand. He’s right but a forehand into the net hands Murray a second break chance. Again he saves it and also a third, a fourth and a fifth before holding on

  40. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-6 – SET – A backhand into the net from Murray, a cheap error, and Djokovic has two more break back points. An ace straight down the centre of the court saves the first for Murray, while Djokovic sends a forehand wide down the line to squander the second. Djokovic is left doubled over after another lengthy rally which ends when he hits long down the line. Set point Murray ... and he gets it with a huge serve out wide that Djokovic can only return into the net

  41. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-5 – BREAK – Murray breaks once again, and this time it leaves him serving for the second set, when Djokovic puts a cross court forehand into the top of the tape and is forced to watch as it bounces back on to his side of the net

  42. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 3-4 – BREAK – Great feel from Murray as he dinks a forehand drop shot back across court for a winner, after opening the game with double. A huge backhand winner across court from Djokovic levels up at 30-30 before a forehand long from Murray gifts Novak a break back point. Murray saves it with a huge forehand that Djokovic can only return long across court but another double hand Novak another break point. And this time Djokovic does get back on serve when Murray hits into the net

  43. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 2-4 – BREAK – Oooh! A huge cross court forehand winner from Murray whipped over on the angle gets the crowd going, no doubt they are more behind Murray than Djokovic. Nole bounced back from 0-30 to level at 30-30 before Murray puts in another quality point and a cross court forehand that Djokovic can only hit into the net. It brings up a break point before another lengthy rally ends in a forehand long from Djokovic. Murray has won the last four straight games now!

  44. - - Jim Courier and Lleyton Hewitt, in the commentary box for Channel 7 in Australia, have both just answered "no" to the question: "Can Murray win a Slam this year?" Ouch!

  45. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 2-3 – Murray goes back behind Djokovic with a cross court forehand that ends up being a winner when the Serb cannot recover in time. And he goes on to hold with another foray into the net and an emphatic smash winner which he buries in the open court. Much, much better from Murray again now

  46. - - Murray had a chat with the umpire during that game about how long Djokovic is taking between points. It was about double the permitted amount of time in that last game and it wouldn’t be surprising for the umpire to be having words with Nole during the change of ends

  47. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 2-2 – BREAK – Murray leaps up to slam dunk a smash into the open court before another smash, this time more sedate, earns him a 0-30 lead against the Djokovic serve. Another huge point, great hussle, sees Murray deny Nole on game point before he earns a break back point with a backhand down winner down the line. It goes begging but he gets a second chance when Djokovic hits a backhand into the net and this time he does break back when Djokovic hits long after another long rally

  48. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 2-1 – Djokovic stops mid-point to challenge a Murray forehand, being proven right by just 1mm, before another forehand long from the Brit leaves him at 0-30. A forehand long from Djokovic helps before Murray earns a game point with an ace. A double fault quickly squanders it though before a forehand into the net hands Novak another break point. The chance goes begging though and Murray does bounce back to hold when Djokovic hits a forehand into the net

  49. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 2-0 – Another hold goes the way of Djokovic to consolidate the early break as Murray fails to find the court once again. That was slightly better from Murray, but he only pushed Djokovic to 30-30 before the Serb went on to hold. Vital game coming up next for Murray

  50. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 1-0 – BREAK – Murray produces his best forehand of the net to get himself out of a spot of potential bother at 15-30 but a drop shot on the next does not help Murray as Djokovic easily gets up to it. It’s an early break point to Djokovic, and then an early break as Murray slaps another cheap shot into the net

  51. - - DJOKOVIC 6-3 – SET – Djokovic is beginning to win the vast majority of the longer rallies now as he earns himself a couple of chances to wrap up the first set with two such points. And it’s more of the same on set point, as Nole moves Murray around the baseline, eventually stretching him into the error; a forehand low into the net

  52. - - DJOKOVIC 5-3 – A much better service game from Murray this time around as he holds to 15 to force Djokovic to serve out this opening set. Murray is looking very frustrated but Lendl won’t take too much of it in his direction; he was heard to say in the first round against Ryan Harrison, “stop looking at me, Andy”, when Murray was struggling in the first set

  53. - - DJOKOVIC 5-2 – Djokovic is all over the Murray cross court forehand so far, picking the approach shot in plenty of time to be able to riffle a forehand winner across court in reply. A couple of quick points to follow it and Djokovic moves to within one game of this first set. Murray will have to serve to stay in it after the change of ends

  54. - - DJOKOVIC 4-2 – BREAK – A very loose game from Murray, opening with a forehand long before handing Djokovic another three break points with a backhand well wide across court. Only one break point is needed though as Murray dumps a backhand into the net to end a lengthy rally. Sloppy from the Brit there

  55. - - DJOKOVIC 3-2 – BREAK – Murray hits a couple of forehand errors to help Djokovic to two game points. The first goes begging when Djokovic puts a forehand long down the line while he also fails to take advantage of the second. Murray denies Djokovic on a third as well, with a cross court forehand off an easily reachable drop shot, and gets a break back point when Nole dumps an easy forehand volley into the net. And Murray does break back with an angled backhand winner across court

  56. - - DJOKOVIC 3-1 – BREAK – Murray makes a great challenge on a serve that is called out only for the ball to have caught the very back of the line. The big screen in the arena shows Prime Minister Julia Gillard in the crowd, raising a boo and a bit of a disturbance throughout the crowd. A routine cross court backhand from Murray hands Djokovic another chance to break and this time the Serb does get it when Murray slaps down a double fault

  57. - - DJOKOVIC 2-1 – Djokovic is clearly tight, he is already sucking in the air and is shrugging his shoulders as if to get himself to relax. A double fault does not help him as it hands Murray a break point of his own. The Scot can only send his second serve return into the net and Djokovic does go on to hold when Murray sends a forehand just marginally long down the centre of the court. No signs of happiness from Djokovic though as he just flashes a look back to his player box

  58. - - It's still 27 degrees in Melbourne, by the way, even though it's 7.58pm. The sun is setting though so expect that to cool as the match goes on

  59. - - So, two games in and those long rallies seem to be going to way of Murray more often than not. No-one was winning rallies like that against Djokovic in 2011, and Murray gives him a long stare after one of those points to check out how Novak is recovering after that tough match against Ferrer two nights out, where he clearly struggled

  60. - - DJOKOVIC 1-1 – A couple of long forehands from Murray creates instant pressure on his own serve as Djokovic takes a quick 0-30 lead. A huge backhand down the line, which Djokovic can only return into the net, ends another lengthy rally in Murray’s favour but Novak easily gets up to a drop shot and earns himself a couple of break points. Djokovic hits long to squander the first and also the second and Murray goes on to hold when Djokovic hits into the net

  61. - - DJOKOVIC 1-0 – Djokovic holds to 15 when Murray sends a forehand long. A solid opening service game from the Serb but encouraging signs from both players that they are ready to go right from the off – long rallies with the players going toe-to-toe from the baseline

  62. - - They players are just about ready and it will be defending champion Djokovic to get the clash underway by serving first ...

  64. - - These two guys have faced each other 10 times before today, with Djokovic leading the head-to-heads by six wins to four. Murray was one of only a handful of people to beat the world number one last year, albeit when Djokovic was forced to retire during the final at the Cincinnati Masters

  65. - - Last night’s clash between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer was an absolute thriller; ending in world number two Nadal booking his place in Sunday’s final after four incredibly tough sets. Nadal downs Federer in thriller
