14:14 - Next up for Federer is Juan Carlos Ferrero, who beat Gael Monfils yesterday. Rome Masters drawsheet
14:13 - FEDERER 6-3 6-4 MATCH! He's serving for the match and starts off with a crisp rally that Berlocq gamely keeps with until he slips it wide. BOOM! Berlocq can't return that serve and is sunk by a backhand volley at the net and we have three match points - taken as Berlocq again can't keep with the serve.
14:10 - FEDERER 6-3 5-4 BREAK New balls that Federer uses to great effect, some killer forehands including a sweeping one out wide to earn three break points. When it counts, he pounces - he can't break to love though, netting a return. Off second serve Fed initiates a rally that he luckily wins as he hits the net, the ball bouncing the right side! He acknowledges the fluke, and will serve for the match.
14:03 - FEDERER 6-3 3-4 Meanwhile Berlocq holds to follow up that break. Could he take Fed to three?
14:00 - FEDERER 6-3 3-3 BREAK A break point for Berlocq as he mixes in a few drop shots to test Fed. But he scoops one nicely for a forehand drive volley that Fed buries off the line. Deuce. But a failed serve-volley from Fed sees the Argentine break! Amazing!
13:53 - FEDERER 6-3 3-2 BREAK Some crisp early returns from Fed put him two points up against serve. But an error from Fed, going long on a forehand. And some great play from the Argentine, including a vicious change of direction on a forehand, and he's suddenly 40-30 up. But Fed wins three points in a row, using his deadly short ball once more, and he breaks.
13:48 - FEDERER 2-2 The Fed holds to love in next to no time, Berlocq unable to touch him.
13:45 - FEDERER 6-3 1-2 After the shaky start to that service game, Berlocq manages to hold thanks to some poor shots from Federer, who closes with a rare unforced error.
13:42 - FEDERER 6-3 1-1 Federer holds quick and smooth, and Berlocq starts his next game with a bizarre attempt at a volley. Not his best trick. Why Fed succeeds the closer he drops it over the net.
13:37 - FEDERER 6-3 0-1 Berlocq starts well with a fairly comfortable hold. Federer seems happy to bide his time and wait for an opportunity, as opposed to forcing them against serve.
13:33 - FEDERER 6-3 SET Two very swift holds - Fed almost letting Berlocq do so in order to facilitate an easy service game for the Swiss - and Fed takes the first set.
13:27 - FEDERER 5-2 Two break points for Berlocq as Fed casually fluffs a backhand into net! And he has to go on second serve after netting the first... Strong return but Fed smacks it deep and Berlocq can't make it. And the Swiss master pings a few majestic shots about to hold, super comeback.
13:23 - FEDERER 4-2 Decent hold from the Argentine, a serve volley to finish it off after Fed had won a couple of early points.
13:20 - FEDERER 4-1 Speaking of holds, Federer peppers a selection of shorts somewhat short for clay, giving poor Berlocq a bit of a motion nightmare.
13:16 - FEDERER 3-1 Well Berlocq stops the early rot to hold serve. Needless to say Fed sweeped to his previous hold. Some nice backhands from the Argentine in there.
13:05 - FEDERER 1-0 Nice and easly hold for the GOAT. This could be a quickie - he's moving like a lotus right now.
13:00 - FEDERER Yay! The master is on court, warming up ahead of his Court Centrale clash with Carlos Berlocq. Head to Head - 0-0. These chaps have never played, despite Berlocq's 13-year career as a pro.
