6-4 - GAME, SET AND MATCH SHARAPOVA! 3-6 6-3 6-4 - Sharapova into the last four to face Victoria Azarenka with a fine finish. A big first serve ace and powerhouse first serve is too good for Bartoli. A real battle for Sharapova, but class told in the end. Should be a brilliant match in the last four between her and Azarenka.
5-4 - BREAK SHARAPOVA 5-4 - Bartoli has been defending like her life depended upon it, but is finally broken at the key moment in this match. Has not been classic Sharapova, but she is drilling the ball with her trademak power. And that should be enough to get over the line. Needs one more hold to pocket the match.
4-4 - 4-4 - Sharapova diving on any short balls with real gusto. Sharapova now up to 42 winners compared to 16 by her opponent. She is level again at 4-4. Can smell the tension in the air here.
3-4 - BARTOLI 4-3 - Sharapova really applied the pressure in that seventh game. Swinging the racket at every ball, and coming up trumps on a few occasions. But Bartoli holds firm to stave off the threat of a break for a 4-3 advantage. She is overjoyed with that outcome.
3-3 - 3-3 - Another key hold by Sharapova. This is gladitorial stuff by both women as the match continues to ebb and flow to its natural conclusion. Bartoli coming out to serve for a 4-3 lead.
2-3 - BARTOLI 3-2! Another important hold for Bartoli at this stage of the match. Really pumping those fists. Sharapova looked good when she broke to move 2-1 ahead, but Bartoli has responded superbly with two games of her own. Impressive stuff.
2-2 - BREAK BARTOLI! Bartoli breaks back. Never seen that coming. Sharapova not yet out of the woods. Bartoli is nothing if not a fighter. Bartoli hitting that forehand with some relish. She has won three out of 13 break points. None more important than in that game.
2-1 - BREAK SHARAPOVA! A 2-1 lead for the Russian player, who is starting to time the ball superbly. Sharapova with an astonishig 36 winners compared to 10 by Bartoli.
1-1 - 1-1 - All level then. Sharapova is beginning to show her class here. Just get the feeling that this match is beginning to head in favour of Sharapova as she restores parity at 1-1.
0-1 - BARTOLI 0-1 - Big hold by Bartoli at the outset of the third set. The French woman trying to cajole herself for one final push here. Both women coming nicely to the boil here in the business end of the match.
6-3 - SET SHARAPOVA! A rousing response from Sharapova as she holds to love to level up the match at 1-1. Some brilliant tennis by the third seed, who is bidding for a second US Open title after her success in 2006. Game on in this final set. Bartoli not yet out of this.
5-3 - BREAK SHARAPOVA 5-3! Can't really say the break wasn't coming. The pressure was mounting on Bartoli and Sharapova puts away a couple of delicious winners to move 5-3 ahead in the second set. Needs one more game to level up the match at one set all.
4-3 - SHARAPOVA 4-3 - A much more assured game from Sharapova on serve. The timing is a lot better as she holds for a 4-3 lead. Much more like the Sharapova you come to expect in these situations.
3-3 - 3-3 - Not sure how trustworthy that sky is looking at the moment. Looks like it could empty itself on Arthur Ashe Stadium at any time. Chance for Sharapova to break, but not taken as Bartoli squeezes out of a tight situation to level at 3-3 from deuce. Sharapova has improved, but she needs to find a few more gears to recover in this set.
3-2 - SHARAPOVA 3-2 - Bartoli sensed the opportunity of a break at 30-30, but Sharapova responds well to avoid the break for a 3-2 lead. The trademark big forehand seems to be working a lot better in this set. Huge moments in this match.
2-2 - 2-2 - The pace of Sharapova's groundstrokes not really troubling Bartoli enough, and neither is the direction. Ball flying in the wrong directions for the Russian player as she fails to break Bartoli from 30-30. All square in this second set, and we are on serve.
2-1 - SHARAPOVA 2-1 A key hold for Sharapova as she faced several break points, but manages to escape holding serve. Bartoli has only won three of 10 break points in the match while Sharapova has claimed two out of two break points. How key is that stat going to prove the longer this match progresses?
1-1 - BREAK SHARAPOVA! Bartoli bleeding double faults in that service game as she drops serve immediately to enable her opponent to restore parity at 1-1. Neither of these serves is overly impressive.
0-1 - BREAK BARTOLI! This is not good news for Sharapova. A pretty rotten service game from the Russian player as she is broken in the opening game in a set that she needs to win to stay in this tournament.
3-6 - SET BARTOLI! Bartoli lets out a huge scream as she scrambles over the line with a tidy hold. Sharapova rallied briefly, but too far adrift to trouble her opponent, who continues to bounce around with some relish.
3-5 - BARTOLI 5-3! A decent hold by Sharapova that will force Bartoli to serve for the first set. That sounds a daunting enough prospect. This set could yet have life in it. Sharapova not timing the ball as well as she usually does, but she remains alive in this first set.
2-5 - Bartoli steadies the ship somewhat with her first hold of the afternoon. She leads 5-2 and is now one game short of a one-set lead. Work to be done in this set for Sharapova if she is going to avoid falling a set down.
2-4 - Sharapova throws in a double fault - her fouth of the match - before knocking a ball long from deep. Suddenly we are locked at deuce in this game before Sharapova throws an ace down the centre of the court to get out of a sticking situation. She claims the next point to claw back to 4-2 behind.
1-4 - BREAK SHARAPOVA! Bartoli's serve looking as reliable as the weather in New York as she throws in a double fault in the second point of the fifth game to be broken for the first time in the opening set as Sharapova reduces her arrears to 4-1. Bartoli remains within two games of the opening set.
4-0 - BARTOLI LEADING 4-0! Almost ready to go then. Bartoli gets the action off and running in the fifth game of the set.
