Djokovic nets but finds an exquisite drop shot winner to get into the game. Another drop shot brings an error from Ferrer as the Spaniard nets but a good first serve brings a game point. But Ferrer hits a forehand wide and a double fault at the wrong time concedes match point. The Spaniard hits long and that’s it in an hour and 29 minutes!

  2. - DJOKOVIC 6-2 6-2 5-1 – Djokovic opens with a stunning inside out forehand winner that Mats Wilander describes as ‘ridiculous’. He follows with a backhand winner up the line and it’s easy to feel sorry for Ferrer now. A cheeky drop shot and lob and Djokovic is playing with Ferrer like a cat with a mouse and he rounds off yet another love game.

  3. - STAT: Djokovic has hit 20 winners and made 13 unforced errors.

  4. - DJOKOVIC 6-2 6-2 4-1 – Well played Ferrer! He starts the game with a forehand winner of his own. Back comes Djokovic though and he repays the compliment with one of his own before twice finding the net. A forehand pass and Ferrer is on the board to the cheers of the crowd who surely expected more from this.

  5. - DJOKOVIC 6-2 6-2 4-0 – Djokovic opens up with two more big serves up the tee and races to 40-0 with another backhand winner. A rare Djoko forehand error gets Ferrer on the board in the game but the Serb wraps up the game with a forehand winner.

  10. - DJOKOVIC 6-2 6-2 1-0 – BREAK! A bad start for Ferrer on serve in the third set, netting on the opening point. Djokovic repays the compliment but yet again out rallies Ferrer from the baseline for the umpteenth time to edge ahead in the game. A wild shanked forehand gives the Spaniard some respite but Djokovic gets the better of the longest rally of the match o forge another break point and Ferrer hits long to concede the early break. Relentless.

  11. - DJOKOVIC 6-2 6-2 – SET! Djokovic opens with another ace but finds the net for the second time in succession with a drop shot attempt. Another big serve finds its mark before Djokovic again out rallies Ferrer to bring up two set points. Ferrer nets and Djokovic has a two set advantage in an hour and six minutes of play.

  13. - DJOKOVIC 6-2 5-2 – Ferrer nets on the opening point but Djokovic then hits long to restore parity. The Serb follows a huge forehand with a neat drop volley but goes for too much on his next forehand and blazes wide. Djokovic twice nets and Ferrer holds but the Serb will serve for a two set lead.

  14. - DJOKOVIC 6-2 5-1 – Djoko opens with a good wide first serve but loses only his third point on serve with a shanked forehand into the stands. Ferrer successfully challenges an ace and forces Djokovic into another error with a forehand into the corner. Djokovic rallies back to 30-30 and forces another Ferrer error before another forehand winner puts him to within a game of a two set lead.

Ferrer hits long to put himself in trouble at 0-30 and a blazing backhand winner earns Djokovic three more break points. A double fault concedes the game and Ferrer looks a beaten man already.

Djokovic comes out on top of another long rally but a big serve pulls Ferrer level at 30-30. Djokovic makes an uncharacteristic unforced error but wins another long rally to pull it back to deuce. Djokovic earns another break point and Ferrer nets tamely to concede the early break. Writing on the wall?

  20. - DJOKOVIC 6-2 1-1 – Djoko bludgeons another huge forehand to open and Ferrer unsuccessfully challenges a forehand that Hawkeye confirms is just long. A cracking crosscourt backhand gives the Serb three game points and he rounds off another love service game with an ace.

  21. - DJOKOVIC 6-2 0-1 – Ferrer starts the second set by winning a confidence building long opening rally but then hits long. A second lucky net cord edges the Spaniard ahead but another unforced error sees the game go to 30-30 before he digs deep to hold. Ferrer needed that.

  22. - DJOKOVIC 6-2 – SET! Djokovic opens with a neat drop volleyed winner and follows with a big first serve. Ferrer nets tamely to concede three set points and Djokovic seals the set in 29 minutes with a third ace.

Ferrer opens with a confidence building backhand winner but Djokovic has him on a piece of string on the next point, moving him left and right before finishing the point with a neat volley. Djokovic nets a backhand and shouts in frustration and Ferrer goes 40-15 ahead. But Djokovic rallies back to earn a break point and converts to earn the double break and almost certainly the set.

  27. - DJOKOVIC 2-2 – The game opens with a lovely backhand slice exchange before Ferrer nets and a trademark backhand winner up the line followed by a successive aces gives Djokovic his first love hold.

The Spaniard hits a return just wide but gets back in the game with a forehand winner after Djokovic nets an easy forehand. Djokovic holds with another decent first serve.

Ferrer opens confidently with a big first serve and forehand that Djoko can’t get back but the Serb then blazes his first forehand winner to serve notice of intent. Another good Ferrer serve puts him ahead in the game but he wildly shanks a forehand long. A good body serve gives the Spaniard game point and Djoko nets to give Ferrer the game.
