  1. - - Nadal collapses to the court in floods of tears after a warm embrace with Djokovic at the net and that's what it means to the Spaniard after missing last year's tournament with that career-threatening knee injury.

  2. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-6 1-6 - GAME, SET & MATCH! A huge first serve than Djokovic can only return into the net off the forehand wing and it's two match points to Nadal... He only needs the one though and RAFAEL NADAL IS THE US OPEN CHAMPION ONCE MORE after Djokovic nets a forehand down the line.

  3. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-6 1-5 - BREAK! A backhand approach shot wide from Djokovic, who is clearly running out of steam, hands Nadal another break point and a chance to serve for the title. One break point is all he needs as Djokovic pulls a cross court backhand passing shot wide into the tramlines. Rafael Nadal will serve for his second US Open title, and 13th Grand Slam title, next.

  4. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-6 1-4 - Brutal hitting from Nadal on the baseline and even Djokovic is left applauding when the Spaniard flicks a backhand passing shot across court for a winner to end a 25-shot rally. The world number two is closing in on his 10th title of the year as he holds once again, for the loss of just the one point, when Djokovic slaps another forehand long of the baseline.

  5. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-6 1-3 - Djokovic belatedly gets on the board in this third set as he posts a much better service hold to 15, a forehand winner bringing up game point before a big first serve seals it when Nadal cannot find the court with his backhand return.

  6. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-6 0-3 - Djokovic stumbles on the baseline, which doesn't help his cause, as Nadal holds to 15 to consolidate the break, the Spaniard sealing the game with a backhand winner down the line.

  7. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-6 0-2 - BREAK! Nadal senses the time is right to strike and quickly earns himself three break points with a trip into the net with a ferocious cross court forehand approach shot that Djokovic can only net in reply. The Serb saves the first with a trip into the net of his own and then the second with a spot of luck when he backhand catches the top of the net and dribbles over for the perfect drop shot winner. But Nadal does break with a sensational forehand winner down the line

  8. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-6 0-1 - Djokovic flicks a cross court forehand winner off a Nadal drop shot after another 28-shot rally to bring up an early break point in this second set. He can't take advantage though, hitting wide with a forehand down the line. He also squanders a second with an inside-out forehand return wide across court and Nadal goes on to hold with a smash winner down the centre of the court.

  9. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-6 - SET! Yet another incredible rally from both players leaves the majority of the crowd on their feet as Nadal and Djokovic both cover every inch of the court before the Spaniard can eventually find a forehand volley winner into the open court. A blocked return from Nadal that Djokovic can only slap into the net and it's set point to the Spaniard. He only needs the one, Nadal sealing the set when Djokovic goes long with another forehand.

  10. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-5 - Nadal saves the third with a service winner down the centre of the court and although he can't quite take advantage of his first game point, does secure the hold at the second attempt with a smash winner. Djokovic will have to serve to stay in this third set after the change of ends.

  11. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-4 40-30 - Sensational from Djokovic again as he brings Nadal up to the baseline with a sliced drop shot before lobbing the Spaniard with a backhand volley lob. He also takes the second point of the game when Nadal slips on the baseline and then earns himself three break points as Nadal nets a forehand. Rafa saves the first with a big serve out wide and forehand winner down the line while Djokovic wastes the third with a netted forehand down the line.

  12. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-4 - Djokovic stops the run of game against him with a much better hold to 15 when Nadal's cross court forehand catches the top of the tape and just fails to go over the net..

  13. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 3-4 - Djokovic's level has just dropped a little in the last couple of games and Nadal has fully taken advantage, battling back into the lead with a hold to 15 when a forehand goes long down the line from the Serb.

  14. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 3-3 - BREAK! Another blistering inside-out forehand winner from Djokovic, right into the corner, sees him level at 30-all after a spot of danger from Nadal. A mis-hit backhand from the Spaniard hands Djokovic a game point but a couple of huge forehands from Rafa earn him a break back point. And break back the Spaniard does when Djokovic sends a backhand sailing long of the baseline.

  15. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 3-2 - A service winner down the centre of the court from Nadal gets him out of a potential spot of bother after Djokovic takes the first point of the game once again. But the Spaniard recovers from there and holds to 15 with another cracking serve that Djokovic cannot retrun in play off the backhand wing.

  16. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 3-1 - Djokovic nets a forehand volley to drop the first point of the game before a sliced backhand drop shot is perfectly judged for a winner and going on to hold without the loss of another point, sealing the game with a service winner.

  17. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 2-1 - Djokovic lands a forehand return right on to the baseline to put Nadal on the backfoot and eventually draw the netted forehand from the Spaniard. Nadal levels up at 30-all with a forehand stop volley winner but a cross court forehand winner from Djokovic and a forehand return winner down the line bring up another break point for the Serb. He squanders it with a forehand long and Nadal goes on to hold with a sensational drop shot winner and another forehand long from Novak.

  18. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 2-0 - Djokovic nets a backhand from the baseline to squander a first game point before also putting a backhand volley into the net off a dipping forehand from Nadal. Deuce. But another breathtaking forehand from Djokovic, which Nadal can only put long, to end a 29-shot rally and the Serb has a third game point. And this time he does consolidate the early break. With an ace.

  19. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 1-0 - BREAK! Djokovic runs around the ball and fires a forehand winner down the line to take the lead against the Nadal serve before going on to break to love for the opening game of this third set when the Spaniard fails to find the court with a backhand.

  20. - - You can watch a selection of these incredible rallies between these two, including that 54-shot thriller, by visiting our video page. Why not take a look.

  21. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 - SET! Djokovic brings up a first set point with a backhand down the line and a smash, which Nadal can only return long despite guessing exactly where the Serb was going with it. And one set point is all it takes as Djokovic levels up at one set apeice with a sensational backhand winner down the line catching the very edge of the line.

  22. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 5-3 - BREAK! Another cross court forehand winner from Djokovic, this time off the return, denies Nadal on a sixth game point before the Serb finally earns himself a break point with a netted backhand from Rafa. Sure enough Djokovic does re-establish his break advantage in this second set when he races up to the net to a decent drop shot from Nadal and flicks it away across court for a backhand winner. Djokovic will serve for the second set.

  23. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 4-3 40-40 - Djokovic has been a step slow since that 54-stroke rally and he slaps a forehand long to gift the Spaniard two game points. But Djokovic denies him on the first when Nadal sends a forehand of his own long across court while the Serb saves the second with a blistering inside out forehand winner across court. Djokovic also denies Nadal on a third, a fourth with a smash winner and a fifth with a brutal cross court forehand winner...

  24. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 4-3 - BREAK! A double dault from Djokovic does not help his cause as he hands Nadal three immediate break back points. He saves the first with a lunging forehand stop volley winner and the second with a cross court backhand that Nadal nets with a change-of-direction forehand. But the Spaniard does get back on level terms in this second set when Djokovic goes long with a forehand long down the line.

  25. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 4-2 - BREAK! An inch-perfect running forehand lob from Djokovic sees him get ahead in the game before a superb rally - 20-plus shots once again - ends with the world number one dinking an angled backhand volley over the net to earn himself another break point. And this time Djokovic does break through after an incredibly rally from both players - a 54-stroke baseline rally eventually ending with an off-balance backhand into the net from Nadal.

  26. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 3-2 - Djokovic finds a better weight of shot on the back hand down the line to seal a winner before Nadal replies with a half-volley change of direction forehand winner down the line to get off the mark in the game. The Serb quickly holds for the loss of just that one point though, sealing the game with an ace.

  27. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 2-2 - After looking like he might make a breakthrough in the previous Nadal service game, the Spaniard shuts Djokovic out with a love hold this time around - a forehand winner, a backand winner, a forehand volley winner and a big serve that the Serb cannot return all coming in quick sucession of each other.

  28. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 2-1 - Djokovic comes up with an incredible backhand volley winner across court to bring up two game points and put the disappointment of not breaking in that previous game behind him. A big serve that Nadal can only return long down the centre of the court sees the Serb seal the game at the first attempt and that's probably his best service game of the match so far.

  29. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 1-1 - Nadal is caught in the middle of the court as Djokovic fires the ball at him, drawing the backhand volley error from the Spaniard, helping him bring up two break point when Nadal nets a forehand off a huge forehand from the Serb. The first goes begging when Novak hits a backhand long while Rafa saves the second with a backhand winner across court and Nadal goes on to hold with a big serve that Djokovic can only return wide.

  30. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 1-0 - Djokovic steps up play in the opening game of the second set, getting involved in a number of lengthy rallies and forcing the errors from Nadal from the baseline. The world number one holds from 30-all with a forehand winner followed by a cross court backhand winner.

  31. - - DJOKOVIC 2-6 - SET! A bit careless with the backhand from Djokovic but a huge forehand inside out and on to the baseline sees him sneak ahead in the game for the second time. Nadal quickly recovers to bring up a first set point with a forehand approach shot winner back into the forehand of Djokovic. And one set point is all is takes as Djokovic sends a forehand sailing long of the baseline.

  32. - - DJOKOVIC 2-5 - BREAK! A fantastic point from both players to open the game but it eventually goes the way of Nadal as he flicks a backhand passing shot winner across court after a good smash and backhand volley from Djokovic. Another huge forehand winner from Nadal combined with a netted backhand from the Serb and it's triple break point. Djokovic thinks he's saved the first with an injection of pace on an inside out forehand cross court winner. But Nadal challenges and the ball is just long.

  33. - - DJOKOVIC 2-4 - Sensational serving from Nadal as he races through a love service hold to move two games ahead once again and potentially only two games from taking this opening set.

  34. - - DJOKOVIC 2-3 - Much better from Djokovic on serve this time around as he utilises the serve-and-volley tactic to good effect and holds to 15, his only dropped point coming off a double fault. The deficit remains just the one break.

  35. - - DJOKOVIC 1-3 - Djokovic is ready and waiting for the body serve this time and blocks his forehand return back across courto to level at deuce. Nadal knuckles down in the next point though, just returning everything in a 27 stroke rally until Djokovic makes an forehand error. From there Nadal holds, to consolidate the break, with another brutal rally that ends with a Djokovic cross court backhand catching the top of the net and bouncing just wide.

  36. - - DJOKOVIC 1-2 - BREAK! Nadal has clearly learned a thing or two from their previous 36 meetings as he easily anticipates the cross court backhand from Djokovic and fires the ball back down the line off the forehand wing on his way to bringing up an early break point. The chance goes begging for Nadal on an unusual error, a cross court backhand into the net, but he is handed a second and this time he does break with a scorching inside out forehand winner across court.

  37. - - DJOKOVIC 1-1 - Nadal nets a forehand to allow Djokovic to level up at deuce on the Spaniard's opening service game. But two very good serves into the body of the Serb help Nadal hold from deuce and level up.

  38. - - DJOKOVIC 1-0 - Djokovic makes an early trip into the net only to slice his backhand volley long down the line. But he does get the better of Nadal in the first long rally - 17 shots long - when the Spaniard sends a backhand from the baseline long. Djokovic goes on to hold to 30 with an ace.

  39. 22:11 - Novak Djokovic won the toss and opted to serve first so it will be the world number one to get the clash underway. Here we go.

  40. 22:10 - Time is called on the warm-up and we are just moments away from the latest installment of this epic rivalry.

  41. 22:05 - Rod Laver is the guest of honour for the spin of the coin. He takes two attempts, however, failing with his first spin with his right hand and then going back to the left for his second attempt which is far more successful!

  42. 22:00 - The players walk out on to court, Nadal first then followed by Djokovic, the Serb receiving a marginally bigger cheer than the Spaniard - athough not by much.

  43. 21:55 - The general consensus among the pundits is that Rafael Nadal will just have too much for Novak Djokovic today. But if it is anything like their French Open semi earlier this year or their Australian Open final meeting last year (Djokovic won 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7(5), 7-5) this is set to be an epic!

  44. 21:50 - The national anthem has been sung, the giant US flag is currently being folded away so it can only be a few more minutes before the players make their way down to the court from the locker room.

  45. 21:45 - Some more stats for you: Nadal leads 27-15 all-time; Nadal leads 6-3 in Grand Slam meetings; Djokovic leads 3-2 in Grand Slam finals meetings; The two have split 1-1 in U.S. Open finals meetings; Nadal leads 2-1 in all meetings in 2013, including a semifinal meeting at the French Open; In the last five Grand Slam meetings, Djokovic leads 3-2; Nadal has 12 Grand Slam titles to Djokovic's six; Both players have won just one U.S. Open (Nadal in '10, Djokovic in '11)

  46. 21:40 - Nadal has been on imperious form since returning from injury in Feb, nine titles and 11 finals in 12 tournaments - the only blip being at Wimbledon. But since then he has won back-to-back hard court titles (the Montreal and Cincinnati Masters) for the first time in his career and is yet to be beaten on a hard court this year. He has dropped just the one set (to Phillipp Kohlschreiber) with wins over Ryan Harrison, Rogerio Dutra Silva, Ivan Dodig, Kohlschreiber, Tommy Robredo and Richard Gasquet.

  47. 21:35 - Djokovic was not on his best form coming into Flushing Meadows but has made up for it since the start of the tournament, sweeping aside Ricardas Berankis, Benjamin Becker, Joao Sousa and Marcel Granollers all in straight sets. The Serb dropped his first set of the tournament to Mikhail Youzhny in the quarter-finals before battling past an inspired Stanislas Wawrinka in five sets in the last four.

  48. 21:30 - Three of their meetings have come so far this year, all of them being pretty epic. Djokovic triumphed in the first, at the Monte Carlo Masters final 6-2, 7-6(1), before Nadal bounced back with a thrilling 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-7(3), 9-7 in the French Open semi-finals a few short weeks later and then also won 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(2) in the Cincinnati Masters semi a few weeks ago.

  49. 21:25 - Of those previous 36 meetings, Nadal has triumphed 21 times and Djokovic 15. Not as few of those meetings have been on hard courts as you might think. Although when you do cut down the head-to-head stats to just the hard court meetings, Djokovic leads by 11 wins to just six for Nadal.

  50. 21:20 - Djokovic and Nadal, who have been dominant over the last 15 slams, will be meeting for the 37th time in the championship showdown, surpassing McEnroe and Lendl for the most clashes since tennis turned professional 45 years ago.

  51. 21:15 - Hello and welcome to LIVE coverage from the men's US Open final between world number one Novak Djokovic and world number two Rafael Nadal.

Apart from his skills Rafa has the fighting spirit of the lion-and yet an extremely gracious guy.Vamos to all Rafa's fans including Olayinka who has gone quiet. With Rafa there are many more good times ahead. The sick haters should brace themselves for rough times ahead and embrace miserablism. For they are despicable and bitter cowards.
