Brazil police raid Olympic Committee president’s home

In Brazil, police have raided the home of the head of the country’s Olympic Committee, as part of an international investigation into suspected vote-buying. Carlos Nuzman, the President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee was among several targets. In addition to having his home searched, Nuzman’s assets were frozen on Tuesday. Investigators believe African countries took bribes allowing Rio to successfully rig the result and host the 2016 summer games. The headquarters of Brazil’s Olympic Committee was also raided as part of an operation named Unfair Play. The Brazilian city was eventually awarded the Olympics over Madrid by a result of 66 votes to 32. Despite losing in the first round of the 2009 IOC vote to the Spanish city, Rio came out on top in the third round.
