MATT HARMON: Darnell Mooney is an interesting evaluation because the good news here is he's going to push for one of the highest target shares in the league. There's no question about that. The Bears, honestly, didn't add a ton of needle movers at the wide receiver position this off season.
They added guys like Byron Pringle, Equanimeous St. Brown in free agency. They add kind of like a kick-returner-gadget-guy Velus Jones in the third round of the NFL draft. Darnell Mooney could easily walk into a 25% target share in this offense, sort of splitting the top duties there between him and tight end Cole Kmet.
Obviously, the bad news is the Bears offense might stink. Like, how efficient are those targets going to be? I think that's a fair question. That being said, Darnell Mooney did show the best on-field rapport with Justin Fields. He's the guy who has that baked-in chemistry.
And I also think that, man, Darnell Mooney going from Matt Nagy's slant-and-curl, route-heavy screen to more of a play-action, down-the-field offense here with Luke Getsy coming over as the offensive coordinator. I think Darnell Mooney fits that much better. So the talent is there for Darnell Mooney. I think he's a pretty good player even if he might not be necessarily your ideal number-one receiver.
He's going to play number-one wide receiver for the Bears. So, right now, I've got him as a green-light pick. I think he gets just over 1,100 yards this year. And, right now, I've got him ranked as my wide receiver 24.
