A dust devil was spotted in downtown Frederick, Maryland, on Wednesday, May 24. Footage captured by Josh VerStandig shows the moment the dust devil spun beside East Street on Wednesday afternoon.
VerStandig told Storyful he captured the video while he was walking in the area. Other footage shows the winds picking up speed and a dust devil forming, before it dissipates.
Dust devils develop best on clear, dry, hot afternoons when rapidly rotating wind is made visible by the dust, dirt or debris it picks up, according to the National Weather Service. Credit: Josh VerStandig via Storyful
