Fire Breaks Out on Oil Tanker Off Veracruz

A fire on an oil tanker from Mexico’s state-owned oil company, Pemex, was still burning on Sunday, September 25, after it broke out off the coast of Veracruz the previous day. The vessel Borgus was reportedly traveling from Pajaritus to Veracruz when the fire started a few miles off the coast of Boca del Rio.

According to a Pemex statement, all 31 members of the crew were evacuated and there was “no risk” to the safety of local residents or to local facilities. Local media reported that the vessel was carrying 160,000 barrels of oil.
