French police face off with protesters over pensions

STORY: A few hundred people gathered for the blockade, which started at around 6:30 a.m. (0530GMT) and led to over 15 miles of halted traffic around the city.

Police fired tear gas and charged towards protesters on the road and in the nearby fields.

France has seen a wave of protests in recent weeks as French President Emmanuel Macron’s government bypassed the lower house of parliament to push through a deeply unpopular overhaul of the pension system that will raise the retirement age from 62 to 64.
