Spectacular Winners Of The World Sports Photography Awards Are Unveiled

These are the incredible winning images of the 2022 World Sports Photography Awards. Over 7,000 images were submitted to the awards from professional sports photographers around the world. 24 winning images spanned across sports categories including Football, Basketball, Cycling, Gymnastics, and Formula 1. The competition is the only global award for sports photography and is designed to recognise and celebrate incredible sports images and the photographers who take them. Sports photographer David Gray won the top prize for his image of tennis player Naomi Osaka rescuing a butterfly at the 2021 Australian Open. The winning photo captures the moment play was interrupted by the insect before Osaka gently removed it from the court. Other winning images include Linn Presson of Sweden competing in the biathlon during the IBU Biathlon World Championships which won the Winter Sports category. Another shows Lukas Rohan competing in the Rowing Men's C-1 Slalom at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo which won the Water category. Speaking about the awards, Co-Founder, Simon Burton said, "Sports Photography captures special moments and tells unique stories, but most of all it draws you in and reveals the unexpected. It forces you to look again and reconsider."
