Kieran Tierney says Arsenal have shown they can battle through adversity by coming from behind to beat Benfica last night. Arsenal were trailing the Portuguese side 2-1, and 3-2 on aggregate, with 29 minutes of the second leg of their last-32 Europa League left. Given Benfica had scored two away goals in Athens - courtesy of Diogo Goncalves’s stunning free-kick and Rafa Silva latching onto Dani Ceballos’ poor defensive header - Arsenal needed to strike twice or face elimination.
Alphonse Areola is putting any talk of his Fulham future to one side while the club’s Premier League status is uncertain. The French goalkeeper, who signed on loan from Paris Saint-Germain after spending last season with Real Madrid, has been key to the revival of Scott Parker’s side. Fulham go into Sunday’s London derby against Crystal Palace just three points from safety and looking to put the pressure on relegation rivals Newcastle.

Liverpool's Jordan Henderson faces six to eight weeks out after groin surgery
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has undergone successful surgery on the injury he sustained during last weekend’s Merseyside derby defeat to Everton. Henderson was forced off midway through the first-half at Anfield and initial reports suggested he could be out for as long as 12 weeks. While Liverpool have put no official timeframe on his absence other than to rule him out until after next month’s international break, reports say six-to-eight weeks is a more realistic timeframe.

Just under two years ago, Wales wing Louis Rees-Zammit wasn’t far off making his Gloucester debut and would have been watching the Six Nations on television, dreaming about playing in it. Now, at the age of just 20, he is lighting up this year’s tournament and is the player everyone is talking about ahead of Wales v England this weekend. It has been a meteoric rise for him, but I can imagine everyone around Louis will be telling him to treat Saturday like any other game.
If Arsenal and Mikel Arteta are to learn one lesson from last night’s victory over Benfica, it must be that they cannot play like this again if they are serious about winning the Europa League this season. Arteta admitted Arsenal gave Benfica two of their three goals over the course of this last-32 tie, with the penalty in Rome last week and then Dani Ceballos’ poor defensive header allowing Rafa Silva to score last night. “When you do that against any opponent, and an opponent with the quality of Benfica, you’re going to be in trouble,” said Arteta.
