Wildfire Smoke Covers Lake Erie During Sunset

Boats sailed amidst hazy conditions in Buffalo, New York, as the National Weather Service (NWS) warned of smoke from wildfires burning in Canada spreading over the region on June 6.

Drone footage captured by Richard Hulburd during sunset on Tuesday shows boaters sailing along a hazy Lake Erie.

Additional timelapse footage shared by Hulburd shows the sun turn a pungent red during sunset, which the NWS attributes to a phenomenon called Mie scattering.

The National Weather Service (NWS) warned on Wednesday that smoke from the wildfires will continue spreading over the region, adding that “air quality will be unhealthy, especially for sensitive groups.” Credit: @weather_buffalo via Storyful
