Shark Attacks Prompt Emergency Response at South Padre Beach

Texas officials confirmed a bull shark that injured two people in South Padre Island on July 4 had been removed from the beach area.According to the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPW), police and park rangers responded to reports of two shark-attack victims on Thursday.“The two victims who were bitten were transported to Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, where one is being treated and the other has been flown out for further treatment,” the department said. The two victims remained hospitalized as of Friday, according to local media.Footage taken by @SpacePadreIsle shows a helicopter hovering over the beach on South Padre Island as officials kept swimmers out of the water.According to the Texas DPW, the shark responsible for the attacks was transported from the surf to the “deep sea.” The shark was not physically harmed.Wildlife officials told local media the attacks were likely due to weather changes in anticipation of Hurricane Beryl.
