i keep reading about we are going to buy somebody of world class....then we are to sell about 6 different players..we are mentioned with loads of players...then maybe we will sell modric......but you know what.....nothing ....we do this time after time.....right to the wire and then we will grab somebody, anybody just to make a purchase(like cole or barton)...yes i know we got VDV that way .....but that was lucky

i agree. if i was more cynical id say levy wants the money for modric so he is forcing him out by just signing 2 school boys & a middle aged bloater.
llorente would be an upgrade of pav bascially. stronger, can hold up the ball & doesnt fall to the ground all the time.
but id say odemwengie, rodellga & gyan are more realistic.
Lets face we're not going to be able to compete with the largest clubs in europe for 'world class' players, not in the position we're in at the moment.
Harry stated at the begining of the transfer window he wanted a CB, CM, and striker. I know they're not 'world class' but Samba, Diarra could certainly do a great job for Spurs this season and, although i don't think we need another striker,Ruiz or Llorente would work well for us.
If we do need to sell before we buy, we could offload: Bentley, Jenas, Keane, Pavlyuchenko, Palacios, Hutton and Huddlestone. This would significantly lower the wage bill and should free up a few quid, but we 'need' to sell at a realistic price.
I also thought we needed a keeper, but Friedel will fill the gap until Harry realises Gomes is not any good. With that in mind ,without buying any over priced stars, i believe our first team would look competative like this:
Friedel, Walker, Dawson, Samba, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Modric, Diarra, Bale, Van Der Vaart and Ruiz
Anyone else like the look of that.......COYS

So what are you thoughts on Llorente then remmah having seen the game?
Can't say I was overly impressed, but then again he was hampered by lack of service from his midfield until the 2nd half. Don't know his name but I think it was one of their subs who started providing cross after cross for him and he looked much more of a threat.
BTW, his full name is Fernando Llorente Torres. If he comes to us (and I think it's unlikely he will) fingers crossed he doesn't have the same sort of season his namesake had last term following his move to the Chavs ;-)
its shocking it really is we had a chance to make a statement of intent and show modric we are serious so what did we do? we signed a fat old passed it keeper and 2 kids modric must be delighted.
I am really dreading this season if we dont get anyone in we are going to struggle end up at the foot of the table then arry will get sacked then we will be right back to square one anyone see a familer pattern here?
