Wellington complete a double over Street despite major injury
Wellington completed the double over Street in their second away win in just five days.
It was achieved with a pair of well-struck goals post half-time on April 24.
However, the jubilation was cut short with distressing news of star player Lewis Jennings' injury, suffered in a 65th-minute of the game, subsequently diagnosed as a fractured ankle.
In the absence of four starting players, including those from the victorious 2-0 match against Oldland Abbotonians, Richard Cherry's team proved their mettle by equalling points with Saltash United, presently holding the 14th position.
Reflecting echoes of the Oldland game, the first half passed without significant events.
Cherry, however, shuffled his resources during halftime, replacing Danny Wordsworth with Connor Noble.
The change made its impact in the 51st minute.
The audience watched as Shay Allen, the former goalkeeper for Wellington, failed to clear the field, paving way for Harry Scott.
The young midfielder with precise skill chipped from over 35 yards, opening the scoring for Wellington.
The spirited Scott faced a foul just six minutes later, staging for Josh Lukins to score via a spectacular free-kick.
Post-break, a revitalised Wellington displayed consistent defences against the retaliation from Street, mirroring their 2-0 defeat on April 22.
However, the game was subjected to a break in play following Jennings' injury, which eventually led to his replacement by debutant, Tom Scarlett.
Refusing Street any further chances and bringing back memories of Wellington's defensive breaches at Bridgwater just eight days ago, Cherry was evidently pleased with the team's clean sheet.
The final fixture for Wellington's season awaits at Brixham AFC, a team currently in eighth in their first league season.
