Cruz's walk-off single lifts Twins past Pirates 5-4

Nelson Cruz's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Minnesota Twins a 5-4 victory Monday night over the Pittsburgh Pirates for their fourth straight win, setting off an amusing socially distant celebration tailored for the COVID-19 era. Cruz drove a 1-1 fastball from Pirates reliever and former Twins draft pick Nick Burdi (0-1) over the head of center fielder Cole Tucker with runners at second and third and one out.

Berríos, Twins win 5th in row, top Pirates after drone delay

José Berríos pitched six strong innings, Nelson Cruz had three hits and the Minnesota Twins beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-3 Tuesday in a game briefly delayed when an unauthorized drone flew over Target Field. The Twins won their fifth in a row, completed a 7-1 homestand and improved to 9-2 for the second time in the team’s 60-year history. “It was a great way to cap off a great homestand and a memorable one at that,” manager Rocco Baldelli said.
