(Changes slug, adds details) May 22 (Reuters) - Angel Maria Villar was re-elected as the Spanish Football Federation's (RFEF) president for the eighth consecutive time on Monday after he stood unopposed. The former Athletic Bilbao and Spain midfielder has presided over the most successful era in the history of the Spanish national team, who won successive European Championships in 2008 and 2012 and their first World Cup in 2010. The president is elected by an absolute majority of the members of the assembly which includes 120 members representing the clubs, players, referees and managers/coaches, who in turn are elected by the federation's ordinary members.
Barcelona star Sergi Roberto is set to be out of action for around 10 days after suffering a groin injury during the 4-2 victory over Eibar on Sunday (21 May). The news is a fresh blow for the Catalans after they lost the La Liga title to Real Madrid as Los Blancos also beat Malaga to lift the trophy for the first time since 2012. The versatile Sergi Roberto has been a key player for Barcelona during the 2016-2017 campaign after becoming the first-choice at right-back following the summer departure of Dani Alves to Juventus.
