Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been given the green light to continue with the Spanish national team ahead of their friendly with France on Tuesday (28 March) despite suffering an injury scare during a training session with Spain. Costa helped Spain to secure a 4-1 win over Israel on Friday night, playing the full 90 minutes of the game while scoring a goal.
Neil Taylor’s terrible challenge on Seamus Coleman brought to mind a comment made to me at Barcelona’s training ground a year and a half ago. It came from Ivan Rakitic, the elegant Croatian who plays at the heart of the Barcelona midfield, as he tried to explain the way he perceived the difference between Spanish and English football. “In England everyone is really physically strong,” Rakitic said. If you are a Spanish team and you give away a corner against an English team then you have to be ready.
