Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is well known for his batting pyrotechnics but hopes a defensive tweak to his technique can be key to locking up the contentious number six spot for the Ashes. Australia coach Darren Lehmann has said Maxwell's number six spot is up for grabs, leaving the 29-year-old righthander in a shoot-out with other hopefuls in the domestic Sheffield Shield in the leadup to the first test in Brisbane on Nov. 23. Maxwell's faltering output prompted a self-analysis and he was not impressed with what he saw on video review.
Nikita Kucherov scored his second goal of the game with 18:13 remaining in the third period, lifting the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Monday night. Wales hooker Scott Baldwin has said he feared losing his left hand to an infection after being bitten while petting a lion in South Africa last month. The 29-year-old was described as "stupid" by Ospreys coach Steve Tandy after suffering the wound, which needed stitches, during a pre-match visit to a game park ahead of a Pro14 match against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein. Baldwin underwent two operations in South Africa before flying to Swansea to consult a plastic surgeon and said he was extremely fortunate not to have sustained a worse injury.
The Australian Football League has come under fire after ruling a transgender footballer ineligible for selection a day before the national draft for the professional women's competition. Mouncey said she was "extremely disappointed" with the decision but grateful to be given the green light to continue playing in the Canberra competition.
