The image of Todd Gurley falling on the goal line as Detroit Lions defensive players celebrated, raising their arms to signal the touchdown, is the new low point of the Atlanta Falcons' crumbling season. Interim coach Raheem Morris tried to take the burden of that botched play off Gurley on Monday. Morris accepted blame for the play call, saying he should have had quarterback Matt Ryan kneel down.
Todd Gurley saw a tantalizing path to the end zone and couldn't help himself. Gurley landed on the goal line for a touchdown that, as it turned out, led to another stunning loss for the Atlanta Falcons. Detroit let Gurley score with just over a minute remaining to get the ball back, giving Matthew Stafford enough time to drive the Lions to the winning TD as time expired Sunday.
The Lions led in the fourth quarter. And lost it. But this time, they took it back.
