Manchester United don’t have long to dwell on defeat against Wolves, with the team back in Premier League action this weekend.

United fell to a 2-0 loss on Boxing Day with captain Bruno Fernandes shown a red card just minutes into the second half of the clash. His dismissal means that he will be forced to sit out the next game due to suspension.

That game comes on Sunday when Newcastle United visit Old Trafford. But it won’t only be Fernandes who will miss the match, fellow midfielder Manuel Ugarte picked up his fifth booking of the season against Wolves, meaning that he will also have to serve a one-match suspension.

United will be without other players due to injury. Mason Mount faces several weeks on the sidelines after picking up an injury in the first half of the Manchester derby.

He is joined on the sidelines by Victor Lindelof who was taken off at half time during the Carabao Cup clash against Tottenham earlier in the month. Full-back Luke Shaw has also suffered a set-back in his recovery from injury, meaning that he is expected to miss the match.

Newcastle also have some injury doubts for the game, with up to six players potentially missing from Eddie Howe’s squad. Striker Callum Wilson will be on the sidelines with a hamstring strain, while at the other end of the pitch goalkeeper Nick Pope is still expected to miss out due to a knee injury.

Eddie Howe will also be without long-term absentee Jamaal Lascelles who is continuing his recovery from a knee injury. Emil Krafth is back on the grass after suffering a broken collarbone, but the game against United is expected to come too soon.

Defender Sven Botman remains a doubt as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury. He is however closing in on a return.

There is also a doubt over Tino Livramento who missed the Boxing Day clash against Aston Villa with illness. The quick turnaround could mean that he misses the clash against United.
