165 runners show up to Greenock Parkrun on Christmas Day
CHRISTMAS Day's Greenock Parkrun saw an increased turnout of 165 participants, 32 more than last year.
The event, its 480th edition, welcomed a mix of runners, joggers, and walkers, with 13 first-timers, including six who participated for the first time ever.
Many attendees embraced the festive spirit, donning Christmas outfits and Santa hats.
Some even rang jingle bells as they crossed the finish line.
The event, which began in 2014, has seen a significant increase in participation, having started with just 68 runners.
This year, participants from 16 different clubs joined in the Christmas Day run.
Notable achievements include Sarah Ward, Greg Richardson, Ryan McCluckie, and Andrew Searil completing their 25th Parkrun.
Noel Slevin, a first-timer at Greenock, marked his 50th Parkrun.
The first finishers were Shaun Fitch, who set a new personal best of 16 minutes 4 seconds, and Olivia Lyne, who also achieved a new personal best of 19 minutes 49 seconds.
In the JM10 age group, Elijah Taylor was the first to finish, clocking in at 21 minutes 22 seconds.
Sisters Amy and Abby Leung led in the JW10 age group, both achieving new personal bests of 27 minutes 50 seconds and 33 minutes 23 seconds, respectively.
The event was made possible by 18 volunteers, including David MacDiarmid, Gillian McDougall, Alexander Beggs, Alison Reid, Graham Smith, Iain McKenzie, Moira McCluckie, Jamie Blair, Stephen Harrison, Lynne Harrison, Emma Bruce, Richard Newsome, Harry Turner, Paul Bleasdale, Faye Currie, Tracey Howe, Lesley Dick and Andrea Ballantyne.
