2024 review: Freelance photographer's favourite five photos
Impartial Reporter freelance photographers have shared their personal favourite photographs from 2024, and explain what they mean to them. Here, Martin Brady discusses his favourite five.
1) Taken at the 2024 All-Ireland Ladies Junior Final, with a Canon 5D Mkiv @F4, and shutter speed of 1/320. It’s one of those shoots I love capturing, showing the emotion of winning.
2) Taken in Enniskillen at the South West Acute Hospital Protest; a nice, arty shoot with a bokeh-type [blurred] background. I’m always looking for these wee shots when I’m out and about. I shot it with a Canon 1D x Mark II @F2.8, and a shutter speed of 1/125, with a little fill flash.
3) Taken in Croke Park when Fermanagh won the Lory Meagher Cup. I was delighted to catch Tom Keenan, who 12 months earlier had a near career-ending injury. I shot it with a Canon 5D Mark IV @F5, and shutter speed 1/800.
4) This was also taken in Croke Park, when Fermanagh won the Lory Meagher Cup. It was a special moment for the hurling family in Fermanagh when team captain Rory Bogue shared lifting the Lory Meagher with manager Joe Baldwin, who bounced back from illness to lead the team to Croke Park. This shot was taken with a Canon 5D Mark IV @F5, and shutter speed of 1/320.
5) Taken at an U-12 football final. This shot shows the absolute joy of Davin Quaile scoring a goal. It’s definitely one of my favourites from this year, and was shot with a Canon 1D-X Mark II @F4, and shutter speed of 1/2500.
