25 NFL predictions for the 2025 offseason, including where Sam Darnold lands
With the Philadelphia Eagles winning the 2025 Super Bowl, the 2025 NFL offseason can officially begin.
We should have a pretty eventful offseason in the NFL, with some big-name quarterbacks needing new homes and some marquee free agents poised to land major deals with new franchises.
As we survey the upcoming free agency and draft processes, let's make 25 predictions for what may be coming in the months ahead. Where will quarterback Sam Darnold land? What happens with the Cincinnati Bengals and wide receiver Tee Higgins? Which NFL free agents are poised to strike it big?
While all of these predictions may prove for naught, it's still fun to put on our thinking caps and imagine what the 2025 NFL offseason might look like. Let's dive in, starting with what may happen with a certain veteran quarterback we all know.
1. QB Aaron Rodgers and WR Davante Adams will sign with the Titans
The Titans have the first-overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but the haul the team could get back for this selection in a shaky quarterback class might prove too good to pass up. In this scenario, Tennessee brings Rodgers in on a one-year deal as the marquee stopgap quarterback addition of the offseason. Second-year coach Brian Callahan may need to win now to keep his job for the future, which may make Rodgers an appealing option. Adams joins Rodgers in Nashville, and the two try to make the Titans the team where the duo's comeback really takes wings.
Tennessee has good offensive weapons on offense like wide receiver Calvin Ridley, running backs Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears and tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo. Add Adams and a draft pick to the mix, and Rodgers could make it work for a season. If this doesn't work, the Titans can use their 2025 NFL Draft trade haul to move up for a 2026 quarterback and kick off a proper rebuild.
2. QB Kirk Cousins will sign with the Browns
After the Atlanta Falcons inevitably release quarterback Kirk Cousins, he will have his share of suitors. A reunion with his former Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski in Cleveland with the Browns makes a ton of sense. Cousins would have a steady offensive line and a solid group of pass-catchers waiting for him in Cleveland and a coach who knows his game well. Cousins might not have that much left in the tank, but he could close out his career as a starter on his terms with the Browns. Perhaps he gets the team going again like Joe Flacco did in 2023?
3. The Browns will trade DE Myles Garrett to the Commanders
Cleveland has a huge decision to make this offseason with Garrett, who wants to be traded. With the Browns needing an infusion of talent on both sides of the ball, Garrett could net the team a really strong trade package in return. The Commanders are a Super Bowl contender with oodles of cap space and a clear spot for a superstar pass-rusher. Cleveland sending Garrett to Washington to be quarterback Jayden Daniels' answer to star power on the defense would be a game-changer.
4. The Raiders will trade DE Maxx Crosby to the Patriots
The Raiders are in full rebuild mode, as much as the franchise might not want to admit it. Crosby is one of the league's best pass-rushers, and it's possible Las Vegas will send him elsewhere this offseason. The Patriots could use a player of Crosby's caliber on their defense to help the Mike Vrabel/Drake Maye era take flight. New England could really use Crosby going forward, and the team has plenty of cap space to pay him what he's worth for the years to come.
5. The Chargers will trade DE Joey Bosa to the 49ers
Two Bosas on the same field? The 49ers need more juice off the edge, and they could look to Nick Bosa's elder brother as the solution. At this point in his career, Joey Bosa would be a much better complimentary rusher opposite a superstar. Putting the Bosa brothers together in Santa Clara could spell problems for the rest of the NFL. This feels like a no-brainer for San Francisco, and Los Angeles could add draft capital and free up some additional cap space.
6. The Cowboys will sign OLB Micah Parsons to a record-breaking deal
Let's be real. Even an organization as perplexing as the Cowboys won't let the game's best young pass-rusher leave the building. We think Parsons will become the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL this offseason on a brand-new deal with Dallas. The Cowboys keep their star defender.
7. The Vikings will place the franchise tag on QB Sam Darnold
Darnold's future is one of the biggest storylines of the 2025 NFL offseason, but a stay in Minnesota for another year makes a lot of sense. The franchise could lean on Darnold for another season while 2024 rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy gets healthy and prepares for starting reps in 2026. This would be a bit anticlimactic, but it makes a ton of sense for both parties to stay together.
8. The 49ers will trade WR Deebo Samuel to the Panthers
Samuel, a South Carolina native, could return to the East Coast and help out quarterback Bryce Young the Carolina Panthers as the team's de-facto top receiver. The 49ers land a third-round pick in exchange and go in a new direction at the position, while the Panthers give Young the kind of star presence at receiver he needs to continue his development. A receiving trio of Samuel, Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker could help Young out a ton in the passing game, and it would give Carolina the chance to trade veteran receiver Adam Thielen some time in the offseason.
9. The Bengals will trade DE Trey Hendrickson to the Bears
The Bengals need to free up cap space to get deals done with wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. To keep Cincinnati's offense as lethal as it wants to be, trading Hendrickson away and landing his replacement in the 2025 NFL Draft could be a possibility to save money. The Bears have a lot of cap space, and Hendrickson could reunite with his old New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator in Dennis Allen. An edge combination of Hendrickson and Montez Sweat would be devastating for the Bears, while the Bengals get the money needed to keep their star receivers.
10. The Bengals will re-sign both WRs Ja'Marr Chase AND Tee Higgins to new deals
See above. A Hendrickson trade would net the Bengals good draft capital for 2025 and allow the team to focus on defense in the draft with Chase and Higgins locked in for the years to come. Quarterback Joe Burrow would be one happy guy to keep his favorite targets around.
11. The Eagles will trade OLB Bryce Huff to the Falcons
The Philadelphia Eagles made Huff inactive for the 2025 Super Bowl, which means a parting of the ways might be near. Huff reuniting with his New York Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich makes a lot of sense, as Atlanta has a clear need at the position. The Eagles could get the contract off the books, while the Falcons could try to revive the version of Huff that posted 10 sacks in 2023.
12. G Trey Smith will sign with the Bears
The Bears need to make major investments on the offensive line this offseason, and signing Smith to a major contract settles one spot up front with an elite talent. Chicago has the cap space to pull this off, and Smith could join one of the more promising risers in the NFL.
13. OT Ronnie Stanley will sign with the Patriots
The Patriots will be big spenders this year in free agency, and locking in a good left tackle for Maye will be paramount. Stanley will be 31 to start the season, but he's as good of a veteran left tackle as New England could ask for to keep Maye upright through the duration of his rookie contract. The Patriots can simply outbid other teams for a player of Stanley's caliber, and adding him would cross off a massive need on New England's list of priorities this offseason.
14. DT Milton Williams will sign with the Cardinals
Williams is poised to land a massive contract in free agency, one that the Eagles might not be able to match. The defensive tackle reuniting in the desert with former Philadelphia defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon would make a ton of sense. The Cardinals need good players up front on defense, and Williams could translate his breakout 2024 into a 2025 Arizona payday.
15. WR Chris Godwin will sign with the Jaguars
The Buccaneers may have to bid farewell to Godwin, who could rejoin his 2024 offensive coordinator Liam Coen with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Having Godwin and breakout rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. would be a huge boost for quarterback Trevor Lawrence, and Jacksonville has the money to get this done and pay Godwin what he's worth.
16. OLB Josh Sweat will sign with the Cardinals
Speaking of Arizona, Gannon adds yet another one of his former Eagles in Sweat in our predictions. Signing both Sweat and Williams to big-money deals would be a huge boost for the Cardinals to rebuild their defensive front, and both players would enter a familiar scheme to boot.
17. QB Justin Fields will sign with the Jets
As the Jets prepare for the future, they could sign Fields to a one-year deal and make him their 2025 starter. If he plays well, wonderful! If not, he can still man the position with enough professionalism and talent to keep New York afloat until the team adds a rookie in 2026.
18. CB D.J. Reed will sign with the Vikings
Reed is the kind of star cornerback that Minnesota desperately needs. The Vikings have the cap space to give Reed the deal he is likely to command, and his joining Minnesota would make this team stronger on the backend. Reed would probably thrive in Brian Flores' defense.
19. DE Malcolm Koonce will sign with the Eagles
The Eagles always get away with it when it comes to adding defensive linemen. Watch general manager Howie Roseman make a savvy 1-year deal for Koonce, who had a breakout season in 2023 with eight sacks but missed all of 2024 with an injury. Koonce feels like the kind of sleeper free-agent signing we're all praising Philadelphia for making in a year. The best always do it right.
20. The Titans will trade the first-overall 2025 NFL Draft pick to the Raiders
The Titans, having signed Rodgers, make a deal with the Raiders for the top pick. Las Vegas winds up in prime position to land its quarterback of the future.
21. The Browns will trade the second-overall 2025 NFL Draft pick to the Giants
The Browns have Cousins, so they'll make a quick swap with the New York Giants, who are right by them with the third-overall pick. New York gets in place to land its quarterback of the future.
22. The Raiders will draft QB Shedeur Sanders with the first-overall pick
Here you go, Raiders fans! Sanders joins the Raiders as this year's first-overall draft pick. Las Vegas gets the unquestioned star power at quarterback the franchise has coveted for years.
23. The Giants will draft QB Cam Ward with the second-overall pick
Coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen breathe a huge sigh of relief as they're able to draft Ward. Now, it's up to them to develop him into the Giants' long-term quarterback.
24. OLB Abdul Carter will replace Garrett with the Browns
With the third-overall pick, the Browns add perhaps the best player in this draft in Carter. He is responsible for filling the impossibly big shoes of Garrett, but he's got the talent to make a difference right out of the gate. This is a great scenario for Cleveland after trading Garrett.
25. The Patriots will add two-way star Travis Hunter with the fourth-overall pick
The Patriots wind up with Hunter falling to the fourth-overall pick, and what a coup this would be for New England. Hunter is the perfect kind of talent for a rebuilding Patriots team. He probably won't play both ways in the NFL, but he can settle into one spot for the long haul while playing the other on occasion. Our guess? He forms an elite cornerback duo with Christian Gonzalez while playing some electric snaps on offense at wide receiver.
New England wins the offseason here with Crosby, Stanley and Hunter as marquee additions.
