Liverpool stars Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, and Trent Alexander-Arnold were all happy to see Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White on Tuesday ahead of their 1-1 draw at the City Ground.

As Forest and Liverpool emerged from the tunnel for the pregame warm-ups, Gibbs-White first greeted Jota before turning his attention to England teammates Jones and Alexander-Arnold. The 24-year-old previously played with Jota at Wolverhampton Wanderers before completing a $30.5 million move to Forest in August 2022.

Gibbs-White signed a five-year contract at Forest, but several clubs are pursuing him and Liverpool is said to have a 'keen interest' in the midfielder, according to The Mail. Gibbs-White's contract expires in 2027, and should he reject a contract extension at Forest, then the club may be forced to entertain a sale.

The report also states that Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Manchester City are interested in Gibbs-White. Forest is focused on negotiating a new contract with Gibbs-White, and is unlikely to sell their No. 10 in January as the club is pushing for European soccer next season.

However, Liverpool may have the money to spend after rejecting a first offer of $85 million for striker Darwin Nunez. It's thought that Liverpool is open to selling the Uruguayan striker, but only if clubs meet its valuation, which stands at $103 million.

Forest is also demanding a high price for Gibbs-White, with his value eclipsing the $58 million fee that Tottenham paid for Brennan Johnson in 2023. Forest rejected a $61 million offer for Anthony Elanga in the summer, proving that the club is not desperate for cash.

For years, Liverpool have operated under a 4-3-3 formation, but Slot prefers a 4-2-3-1 option and Gibbs-White may allow him to complete the transition. Forest is flying this season in the Premier League, and were the first team to beat Liverpool at Anfield under new head coach Arne Slot.

Gibbs-White has been a key part of their success, with four goals and three assists in 17 games this season. Last season, Gibbs-White managed just five goals in 37 Premier League appearances, as the midfielder has vastly improved in an exciting Forest team.

The midfielder left Wolves in 2022 to further his career, and achieving success is his main goal in soccer. While Forest are one of the best teams in England this season, given his ambitions, Liverpool may be able to tempt him away from the City Ground.

"It was a tough period for me," Gibbs-White said to The Athletic after completing his move from Wolves to Forest. "It was either stay at the club I’d been at since I was a kid, which was all I ever knew, or take a big jump and try to achieve something else.

"I felt it was the right time to move on. It’s gone well so far but there’s more to give. It wasn’t me who paid the price. I enjoyed it. It meant more eyes were on me. It wasn’t a pressure thing. I had to prove people wrong and impress. You thrive off that situation."
