4 things spotted in Liverpool training as two new faces added amid Newcastle boosts
Liverpool’s players have been going through their final preparations ahead of their latest Premier League outing, with the title now firmly within their sights.
Having gone 11 points clear of Arsenal after Sunday’s win over Manchester City, the Reds have already been crowned as champions by a lot of pundits. They can take another big step toward the title when they host Newcastle on Wednesday in a dress rehearsal of the Carabao Cup final.
Arne Slot will be hoping for another big push from his players before they get a free weekend, with his side having put in a huge effort at the Etihad. The Liverpool boss kept a close eye on things at the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday, having spoken to the media earlier in the day.

The Reds will have three players out injured, with Conor Bradley, Joe Gomez and Tyler Morton on the sidelines. The rest of Slot’s squad though is looking in good health as they look to close in on the Premier League crown.
Here’s what we spotted from Tuesday’s training session…
Mac Allister and Gakpo boosts
There was a little bit of concern over Alexis Mac Allister during Sunday's win at City. The midfielder played the full 90 minutes, although he did show off a bruised eye and a swollen cheek on social media afterward.
He earned his battle scars after Omar Marmoush landed on him heavily while scoring a disallowed goal during the first half. Mac Allister had to receive treatment for some time before playing on, and thankfully Slot has confirmed there should be no issues with him playing tomorrow.
The sight of Cody Gakpo back in training this week will also come as a big boost for Liverpool fans. The Dutchman made his return to the squad on Sunday, coming off the bench at City after missing the games against Wolves and Aston Villa.
It looks as though he should be ready to make a return to the starting line-up if Slot chooses to throw him back in, bringing Liverpool back to what many would consider to be its strongest team.
Two new faces
Slot has shown no hesitation in including some of Liverpool's youngsters in first-team training this season, and today was no exception. Trent Kone-Doherty, Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha were all spotted during Tuesday's session, along with a couple of less familiar faces.
Kieran Morrison was included, with the 18-year-old providing another potential option in the attacking midfield role. Whether he makes the squad for tomorrow's game remains to be seen, with Slot eager to include some of the club's academy stars more on matchdays.
Also involved was 22-year-old goalkeeper Jakub Ojrzynski. The Poland native has been at the club since signing from Legia Warsaw in 2019, and has spent the last few seasons away on loan.
Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher were both pictured during training, while Harvey Davies was seen getting involved in a video posted by the club, which suggests Ojrzynski may have been involved as cover for Vitezslav Jaros, although nothing has been confirmed on that front yet.
Szoboszlai back on his feet
Perhaps the enduring image from Sunday's win over City was Dominik Szoboszlai laying flat on the ground with his face in the turf at full-time. The Hungarian left nothing out on the pitch, leaving him well and truly exhausted - he even looked as though he was still out of breath when he spoke alongside Mohamed Salah in a post-match interview.
That amount of effort might have had some players taking it easy for the next couple of days, but there was no sign of that from Szoboszlai, who was right back in the thick of things in training, and showing no sign of any ill effects from his efforts at the Etihad. He'll have a big part to play as Liverpool closes in on the title now.
All smiles
It's easy to be happy when you're 11 points clear in a title race. The likes of Salah and Virgil van Dijk were clearly enjoying themselves as they got back down to work on Tuesday.
What was telling though was that it wasn't just the regular starters that were all smiles at the AXA Training Centre. Even with minutes hard to come by, and in some cases transfer rumors swirling, the likes of Harvey Elliott, Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa could be seen getting involved in some of the fun.
It's testament to the atmosphere Slot has built since he arrived on Merseyside last summer, and also to the group that Jurgen Klopp built before his departure. Hopefully there'll be more smiles at the end of the season as they're lifting some silverware.
